Lowering (with air suspension in mind)
Hi guys, 1st time poster here.
I just picked up a '68 C10 and plan to bag it someday... unfortunately, 'someday' isn't in the foreseeable future. So my question is: is there a preferred method of lowering this bad boy that will prepare it for the air setup it will eventually have? Specifically, are drop spindles utilized with a bag setup or should I avoid that because they'll be obsolete once I convert it to air? I appreciate your help and apologize for the noobie question. thanks in advance! |

Yeah drop spindles would be used with bags and for the rear I would (and have) just buy some drop springs to get it down until you get the money saved for air ride. I bought my rear 5" drop springs on sale for $88 from Brothers trucks and I figure I could sell them when I go with an air ride set up later. If yours is a 68?, guessing based upon your name. You would likely use a 73-87 drop spindle with 1.25 rotors and 5x5 bolt pattern. Are you wanting to go 5 lug or keep it a 6 lugger?

Any comments on grunion fab's reputation please feel free to comment. Also, did you use a notch with your 5" rear coils? I seen this note on Brother's website: Note: when lowering more than 4" in the rear, a C-notch must be used for proper frame to axle tube clearance |

I had great success with them. Plus they normally have killer prices on McGaughy's stuff. 5" rear drop will require no notch if you use drop springs designed for these trucks. Some people, including myself use 6" drop springs without a notch.

Dang I guess Im old school , I know, I will be ordering the mismatch tie rod sleeves soon. Yes it is a little silly mismatching oe parts on the 73+ conversion. I didn't know about the "conversion" spindles or I could have saved some money on my swap. I cant really comment on frame clearance on the rear as my frame is sitting bare in the garage right now. Keith (lowlife99) knows best on disk brake swaps for sure! He is who I got the RIGHT info from doing a 73+ swap, check the disk brake swap links under his name for more good info.
