The wiper gets it's power via the yellow wire in the original wiper loom. It comes from the fuse box. The yellow wire connects to one side of the wiper fuse. I don't know if you have the wiper switch out or not but the wiper switch has to be mounted in the dash so it is grounded before the wipers will work.... LockDoc

Re: help! wiper wiring
As LockDoc notes, ground is important. The reason is because the wiper motor is hot at all times (under ignition anyway) and the switch provides the ground path. There's a built-in ground path to make it through a sweep, and the switch handles the return or park, depending on the switch position.
That's why if you remove ground you'll see them "start...no. start....no" over and over.

Re: help! wiper wiring
ok.. i inherited this issue.. po had installed a painless and new motor (no pump) fuse was popped so im assuming they had the same issue..now I looked and the truck isn't grounded properly so imma tackle that.. the switch is mounted and I can now get them to come on if I push and hold the switch in.. .. so is the ground the issue?

It probably is the issue but it may not be like you are thinking. It may be in the wiring to the motor as they are all ground wires except the yellow ones. You also have to make sure that the wiper motor is grounded since it is mounted with rubber isolators.... In the picture below the arrow is pointing to the built in ground strap on the wiper motor. Make sure it is there. See if there is anything in this thread that will help you.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=413551 The 2 speed wipers are down a little ways. LockDoc

I don't have a clue what the arms would have to do with it.... I think you have 2 wires switched around on the back of the wiper switch ( or where you have them connected to the wiper). Try swapping the ones that are marked LBL and DBL in this picture and see what happens. LockDoc

Re: help! wiper wiring
if I wire like that schematic says the motor only bumps over... then it eventually pops the fuse.(that's how I originally found the wiring )... the way I had it working was I ran a wire from the fuse directly to the middle prong ran my black to low and my DBL to the high left the LBL dangling.. everything worked fine if I turned it to the right one click and pushed it in it would run at low speed, turned it two times to the right and pushed it in it would run at high speed.. ..so I figured I got it.. put the arms on.. it does half a sweep.. and I had sprayed water on the windshield so it would sweep freely.. nothing half a sweep is all I get.. I, thinking its the switch..what else could it be

If you have the hot wire connected to the middle spade connector you have it wired wrong. Here is how it should be connected. The yellow wire is hot. LockDoc

Re: help! wiper wiring
Like has been said, the yellow wire is the power wire from the fuse box and it is hot as soon as the ignition key is turned on. The speeds and the washer are controlled through the wiper switch which has to be grounded to the dash for the motor to work.
That being said you can bypass the switch by running a jumper from the low or high speed wire on the motor to the chassis ground and turning on the key. If the motor is grounded properly as shown then the motor should run. Here is a possibility for the fuse blowing. I discovered that the circuit diagram for the wiper motor wiring is wrongly illustrated on the electrical diagram. Whoever drew it up made the mistake of showing the hot yellow wire connected to one of the ground wires from the switch and if wired this way it will blow the wiper fuse as soon as that speed is selected. The correct way to wire the motor is shown in the second diagram. Wrong Correct

I started to copy that from Justins diagram and noticed it was incorrect so I didn't complete it. He hasn't been on the board since 7-21-15. I wonder if one of us should PM him about it in case he logs on.... Thoughts? LockDoc

Re: help! wiper wiring
I wired according to that color diagram..and i kept popping fuses...the last pic you sent is different from that diagram it works as long as i keep the switch pushed in...thats why i say its the switch

Pushing the wiper switch in also grounds the pump motor on the low speed cycle and causes it to operate. I will continue to cycle as long as you hold in the switch. This signifies that you don't have a ground to your motor speeds except by the washer button. This is why I said you could bypass the switch by grounding the black wires from the wiper switch for the individual speeds. If the motor works then your switch is bad or it is not grounded to the dash except in the washer mode. wiper switch

Doc I doubt he 'd see the PM if he hasn't logged on but maybe someone on the board knows how to contact him. What's his username?

Re: help! wiper wiring
I was dealing with something similar today. Looking at the wiring diagram that I downloaded it shows the incorrect wiring on the wiper motor. Thanks for clarifying the diagram VetteVet! I do have it hooked up correctly.
Special thanks to LockDoc and VetteVet for all electrical issues! |

Glad folks are still using the info. I had to replace the switch in the '67 Panel Truck yesterday because it started getting flakey on me. I had to push in on it to get the wipers to work.... LockDoc

Re: help! wiper wiring
Black, Lt Blue, and Dk Blue are grounds but they are only grounded through the wiper switch when it is switched to the different speeds or the washer button is pushed. The Yellow is 12v when the ignition switch is in the "ON" or "RUN" position. LockDoc
