AfterMarket Cruise Control

Has anyone on here used an aftermarket cruise control? I'm familiar with the ROSTA unit that Dakota Digital (among others) sells. I've seen some mention of an AudioVox unit, but the're hard to find. Any suggestions? - I just returned from a 500+ mi. weekend trip and between my arthiritis and gout, my right ankle was really hurting. Thinking a cruise control might help.

Re: AfterMarket Cruise Control

Not an aftermarket one, but I'm working on installing a cruise control unit off my 91 chevy donor truck into my 69. I'm also using the engine.

This cruise control unit is a stand alone unit. I think you'd have to make a bracket and extra linkage or something that hooks to the carb to get it to work, but I think it would be doable.

Also, my 68 with a DBW LSx has cruise control.

That looks pretty good. How do you like it? Does it hold constant speed well on hills?

It holds the speed fine... I have something wired wrong because when I hit the brakes it doesn't shut off the cruise.

Hey, Thanks for the replies. Any pics of the Dakota install? Went to the link and downloaded the installation manual and it looks pretty challanging. Pics would help.
Again,
.
Thanks

Re: AfterMarket Cruise Control

I have the audiovox unit.

I put the controller under the dash bezel knee-knocker style. It is within easy reach of me sitting in the driver's seat.

Since I have the throttle rod instead of cable I used the cable hole on the aftermarket bracket to hang the locked end of the cable by the carb. The ball chain is what holds the throttle open to my set speed.

The "speed module" is what reads the driveshaft speed and converts it into a signal that controls the throttle. I mounted it to the LHS wheel well, towards the front of the engine compartment. There is a flat spot there like the general intended something to get mounted there. Perhaps where the 2nd batt-tree goes on two batt-tree trucks.

The only thing not pictured is the magnet I put on the very front of the rear driveshaft and the pickup that senses it riding around. That is screwed the cab right above the magnet.

If you get the audiovox system, and have a straight stick, you can use a tach signal instead of the driveshaft magnet.

I've had this cruise control system for a REALLY long time and love it.
