Tilt column again

I found this in the junk yard today and believe it is the right one for my 68. If someone could confirm this that would be great. Also what would it cost to get it ready to put in. It does seem tight in the tilt mechanism and it has a cruise control turn signal switch. Could this be used with a aftermarket cruise set-up?

If it's tight then just clean it up and paint it. Yes you could wire it up to a cruise unit. You may have to put new NSS in it and turn signal switch. But they are easy enough to swap. Get as much of it as you can just in case.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

NSS = neutral safety switch. Grab the intermediate shaft, as well. They would charge extra for it. Good luck with the project!

It could be a van, RV or truck tilt. They are similar but not the same. If it is a van or RV tilt, it can be used in a truck with minor modifications. The van tilt has a center shaft that is too long and the neutral safety switch is too close to the dash whereas the RV tilt also has the NSS in the wrong place. The RV version also has a bend in the lever that attaches to the trans linkage but that should not be a problem. There are several very good threads that describe what is needed. Here's one of them.

You can grab the intermediate shaft, but it’s too short for a truck. If you leave it attached they probably won’t even charge extra for it.
However, it will probably have a good rag joint that you can use. You can also use the rubber boot for a truck shaft’s u-joint if needed.

If you want to experiment, get the front sway bar. It is the thick version, but it may be a couple inches wider than a pickup version. I’ve got a couple, but no assembled truck to try them on.

Thanks for the info on the sway bar. I already have a 1 1/4 front and 7/8 rear. After I put them on wow what a difference. This was last winters push when I did the 700r4, disk brakes in the front with 2 1/2" drop spindles, 377 rear with 3" drop. All moog front end parts and bushings in the rear. This winter doing 383 swap cleaning up under hood new fenders and paint engine compartment and inner fenders and wheel wells. And now adding tilt. This thing is wiping me out. But with working factory air, tilt and soon cruze in about 4 years when I retire I plan on seeing the country in it.
