Made it back from Tellico

A buddy and I left last Thursday morning around midnight thirty for a 500+ mile drive from Jacksonville NC to Murphy NC. I hadn't driven my truck but about 175 miles, and the farthest at one time was about 20 miles. We were both limited to less than 60mph, which helped on the gas mileage a little. All in all, it was a great trip no breakdowns, I did have a few overheating problems in the mountains though. Only breakage was the thin plate between the starter and bellhousing, tq mount bolt holes stripped causing me to lose one bolt, and two small dents (one rocker and one 1/4 panel)
Here are a few pics from the trip.

our route

My daughter after about 7 hours on the road

Here we are leaving Hickory NC for Muphy NC.

Here I am at the bottom of slickrock at Tellico.

This is about halfway up slickrock, had to use the winch

My junk on the RTI ramp at Crawfords campground

This is my buds Jimmy as we were heading home Monday afternoon.

And of course, our trucks favorite spot

Re: Made it back from Tellico

Nice pics, any more!! Truck looks awesome, glad to hear of no breakage...

We're headed out this weekend, for the second trip of the year. First one was in January, w/ about 8" of ice on the ground...

Did your daughter enjoy herself, mine won't go again.

So what were the numbers on the RTI ramp???

It rained all day Saturday, and half the night. We hit the trailhead at noon on Saturday and our group made it out of the trail system just after sunrise on Sunday morning. We had A LOT of winching to do. It was crazy slick, definitely put the SLICK in Slickrock! We had four winches quit, two 8274's, one M8000, and one M12000, one 8274 was mine after several long line pulls, I think the motor roasted itself.

The daughter had an awesome time, there were several other kids that were with us. We fished the Hiawasee on Friday, wheeled all day Saturday/half of Sunday and Monday her and I went gem mining. She absolutely loved it, and is really wanting to go back soon. She didn't get scared at all, of course she didn't ride on any of the real technical stuff though.

I don't have a clue as to rti numbers, it was Sunday afternoon and everyone was going on at the most 2 hours of sleep since Saturday morning. Most of the pics can be seen here

Here is our entire group, minus one FJ40 Landcruiser.

Those are awesome pics. So tell me, could a blazer with stock axles (unlocked, rear posi) and stock suspension so any of that stuff or is that area pretty difficult?

Glad everyone had fun!!! What's up with winches, sounds unusual. As I say this ours will fail on Saturday, have to unjinx myself.

The trails were fine until we hit slickrock, I am locked front a rear but couldn't do anything to grip the rocks, pretty much why everyone winched. On the way out, the mud was so slick guys were sliding off the road, and just getting hung up in general.

I couldn't have asked it to do any better. Prior to this trip it had 175miles since I put it on the road, and it ran great there and back. I did have a fuel leak problem that is now isolated and will be fixed shortly. It ran hot through the mountains, but after checking it over the fan clutch is shot. I didn't get over 60mph on the way there or back, because of gearing. I was just happy it made it over 1k miles with no major problems. Definitely put a smile on my face.

I am so jealous!! Looks like a blast. I cant imagine how I could ever get that many friends to commit to a road-trip like that. Hell, I have a hard time just getting a passenger to go to the local off-road park.

I'm in the same boat. None of mine friends are into trucks like I am, so this board is it for me.
WOW! Somebody slap me!

Do you have any idea of gas mileage, or is that a dumb qeustion...
I'm glad it all worked out mechanically, sometimes on a build of your magnitude the gremlins will eat you up.
Still enjoying the pics.... J.
