Vacuum gauge (feeler) F/S

I found a company that I can get vacuum gauges from for 65.00 shipped but I have to buy 5 or more to get them at this price. I only need one so I am willing to get the 5 and will let the other 4 go for 65.00 + 2.50 shipping if anyone is interested in the other 4. I hate to buy 325.00 worth of gauges and only need one so if I can get four people that want the other 4 I will order them.

I'm interested - what's required to fit this into an existing cluster?

You have to swap out the inner tin, and replace the backing plate that the oil pressure gauge is in or drill the square area out to 1/2" to accomadate the vac gauge.

Re: Vacuum gauge (feeler) F/S

anyone tried the one from truckandcarshop.com? not wanting to steal a post but it's $55 + shipping. Granted their shipping isn't cheap but it keeps you from buying five of them. Unless yours comes with other items needed to install. I would be interested in one if it does.

Re: Vacuum gauge (feeler) F/S

Yes I have called them when you first told me about them. I called last week and the lady said 52.00 plus shipping (14.00 OUCH) 66.00 total, well I called this week and was going to order two and she said they were now 55.00 and I said I called you three days ago and you said 52.00 plus shipping. She said well that is what they are now if you want one and I said the he-- with you then. It just rubbed me the wrong way, it was like I have if you want and if not so be it. Poor customer service, I was on hold 20 min. trying to get a price. So I have found another co.

The truck shop will ship for free if you spend $250 and if bought 5 vacs you would make the amount needed and get them shipped for free. It would bring your cost down to $55/each.I HATE dealing with them too,but sometimes you just have too because of cost

PT, the design was just changed and make sure you get on of the new ones. They are more like the factory vacs were, and we all know the old ones are a crap shoot

Re: Vacuum gauge (feeler) F/S

Billla and jmac, you would first need the vacuum gauge plate or could simply drill yours out just like your oil pressure gauge hole, then you would need the inner gauge face plate that fits on top of the lens, you would need a vacuum lens, tach/vac lens. The hardest thing to find is the inner tin. It is costly if you do not allready have this stuff.

Re: Vacuum gauge (feeler) F/S

I'll take one. I have a used tach lense, and a used tach/air pressure lense that I won't need if you or anyone else wants them for $20 each shipped. I will need a tach/vac lense too, but I can get that later. On the last tach/vac dash that I built, I cut the oil gauge opening out of a donor tin, and glued it in place where the vac gauge opening should be. (after cutting a hole there). It worked great for me, I can't tell the difference.

Cheyenne Superman sells the inner tins for like $35 I think. I was going to go that route for mine, but ended up just dremeling the hole for the time being. If I ever get to plumb the vacuum gage I'll tell you how it works out

Re: Vacuum gauge (feeler) F/S

Two quick questions to net out the upgrade:

- I wasn't clear from the comments...can I just cut my existing "tin" (backing plate) to make this fit?
- I assume the lens is available from vendors?

If I can upgrade what I have, I'm in - but if I have to scrounge a bunch of other stuff to make it work I need to pass :/

THANKS!

Yes, the lens is available from vendors. The small tin that the vacuum and oil gauge mount into is the same, but you will have to drill a hole to mount the vac. gauge. The large inner tin,(the one right behind the lense) is different, and hard to find. There is no opening to see the guage. I modified mine by cutting that area out and gluing in a gauge opening from a donor gauge tin.(It has a special shape) I think GMCPaul sells the tins for about $50. You shouldn't need anything else to add a vac. gauge, but, the 2 tins,(one large, one small), the gauge, and the lens are all different.
EDIT: You beat me to it Paul! (slow typer)

Re: Vacuum gauge (feeler) F/S

You can cut your tin if you want and it will fit or you can cut your tin and get another tin and cut out the part with the rolled lip and epoxy it in place to look like factory. I have seen these done either way. If you added it you would also have to drill your oil pressure backing plate out to the same size hole as your oil pressure hole is.

Thanks PT
