Ralley wheel questions/requests

I love the GM ralley wheels and would like to get a set for my K-10 someday. I've seen some black ones on trucks but mostly see silver question is did they come from the factory black? Also some ralleys seem "deeper" than others is this just me or are they different types? Finally would like to see pics of your trucks with ralleys on them. Thanks,Jon

Jon;

4x4 & 2wd where silver from the factory except for special editions. The spare for my 78 k-10 is black, and I think it came from the factory that way, but I'm not going to stake my life on it. I think that all 6 bolt 4x4 ralleys are 8", with the 5 bolt ralleys having widths of 6.5", 7", & 8". The 7" & 8" use the 3" deep trim ring, while the 6.5" uses a narrower ring. Again, this is what I've seen, not documented fact.

Doug

Thanks for the input Doug, from what I've seen I like the deep ones that are black.I guess I could scrounge up a set at the junkyard and have them painted. I also had a look in the parking lot and a neighbors 88-98 definetly has the narrower wheel. Then again mabey silver isn't that bad either

I think the back spacing on the blazer ralleys are different but I dont know for sure. To me the look much wider than the 15x8 they are.

They came from the factory in argent silver. New replacement ones from GM come in primer black. Eastwood's silver rally wheel paint is an exact match for the factory color.

I had to replace a rim about 7-8 years ago under an insurance claim. The claim covered a new GM rim. I used the Eastwood paint. It's held up as well as the original paint on the other rims and is a perfect match.

As a side note, it's also a perfect match for the grille and headlight trim. I used it to repaint them in '02.

KShortell I didn't know you could still get them from GM,was it replaced for you or did you get it from a dealer?

I bought it through a Chevy dealer in '97. It was paid for under an insurance claim when I ran over a driveshaft that fell out of a '73 CJ-5 on the Interstate. That part is a story in and of itself.

I suppose you could still get one through GM, although I think it was something like $170 even back then. It was nice to have a new one. I'd had one replaced under a different claim a few years before with a salvage yard unit. That's now the spare since the paint was flaking off of it.

You can get them from Wheel Vintiques as well (in 15x8 and 15x10).

I painted mine gunmetal.

To clarify what I'm describing, I'll add the following. What I have is what Chevy called a rally wheel in 1986. Corvettes and Chevelles used rally wheels different from what GM called a rally wheel for trucks.

GM truck rally wheel (what I've got- came on my truck from the factory)
I checked and found that you can still get these from GM.

Corvette / Chevelle style rally wheel

You're looking at around $120 per rim ($165 list), $57 per trim ring ($82 list), and $45 per center hub cap ($66 list).

So, you're looking at around $900 ($1,250 list) for a complete set of 4. You could get a good deal for a set in decent condition at a swap meet for a lot less. Using Eastwood's wheel paint, etc., you could recondition a set to be like new.

I'm quoting prices from PartsZone Online (P&G Chevy), my favorite place for GM parts. I can often get GM parts from them cheaper than I can aftermarket stuff at NAPA, PepBoys, etc. This was the case for cap, rotor, plug wires, and heater core last December. I even bought a new instrument cluster bezel at a significant savings over the restoration aftermarket.

If you have trouble finding something in the online catalog, call them. I've ordered stuff not found online or just called to make sure I'm ordering the right thing. They're very helpful.

Good luck!

silver & black pics. I have trouble deciding which I like better. The black makes it look like a road racer but the silver is a little classier in my opinion...corn

Here is a set of 15x8 on my 97. I painted them black myself and I love the way they look.

Here are my 4x4 rims after I sandblasted them then painted with a rattle can - 1 can rustoleum primer and two cans semi-gloss black for all four rims.
The truck has been sitting for about year with tranny problems so there is dirt collecting in the bottoms?

And here are my 2wd rallyes that were sandblasted and then powdercoated red before I bought them.
These turned out to be a much better deal than I first realized - the guy that had them powdercoated bought them new (5). He also bought the center caps, trim rings and the bolts for mounting the caps new. He only ran them for a summer than they sat in the back of his garage for about 3 years.
I got them for $200! for all five

Ok guys He is considering black ralleys. I did a pair of buick ralleys for my 70 skylark, when i re did the black I used duplicolor semi-gloss engine paint. The wheels look like brand new and they have been painted for 2 1/2 years, the engine paint will withstand the heat, if you want to gloss them up there is engine clearcoat also. theses paints are designed to with stand 500 deg. All you would have to worry about is the beauty rings.

I don't remember what the paint was, but the guy at NAPA said it should hold up to the heat.
These rims and tires were on my Jimmy (and back on there now), on my Diesel for a few months, then on my '86 GMC for a few months then finally back on the Jimmy. The paint still looks good.
I really took my time with the wiping down, primering and painting the rims. And that was hard for me to do!
