Just need some advice

I could buy an 87 rolling chassis with a 6 inch lift, a 14 bolt and dana 60, 350 engine (that knocks) and a clean good radiator ( the radiator I have is done). Now could I just put the drivetrain I have (292 engine, trans, transfercase) onto the 87 frame, throw on my '69 cab and bed and start driving or should I sandblast and paint the frame i have and swap the axles? o i forgot to ask or is it even a good deal at all, I would get all that I mentioned ( I forgot to mention the frame is in good shape, its painted) for $2000? PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS

pics of my truck are on my newly started build form (not much done so far).

Re: Just need some advice

To me lately the way things have been going, $2k seems too high with a bad engine. But with the 6" lift it might not be a bad deal as long as it is a complete running gear. If you have the time and money than go ahead and sand blast the frame and paint it. However, this will more than likely turn into a snow ball effect causing you to restore the complete drive train. And then you will have to build new body mounts to put your 69 body on the 87 frame. It can be done though.

Re: Just need some advice

So I guess I'll just keep on goin with the disassembly, sandblast the frame & paint it. If I get a lift kit for this truck and swap it to a 14 bolt and dana 60 would I need new spring plates and can I order this kit with U bolts for those axles even tho. they didnt come with the truck.

Re: Just need some advice

I'm guessing you'll need new U-bolts due to the lift or if you add leaf springs. And a D60 front only uses 3 u-bolts. The RH side has one U-bolt on the outside of the spring, and 2 bolts through the mounting plate that go into the top of the axle housing. I believe they are 1/2" bolts.

Re: Just need some advice

I would advise K20-69-POS to go forward with the deal. It is really worth the money. Getting a running truck for $1500 is no small matter. But please make sure that the engine is in good condition. Some years ago I also brought a similar truck. Everything looked fine and its cost at that time was around $1400. For nearly two months it worked perfectly. After that I had to repair the engine. So my advice to him is to thoroughly check the engine before making the purchase.
