New here! A couple pics of my truck

My names Jared. I am from south east Kansas. I recently traded an AR-15 to a friend for this 1964 Chevy longbed stepside. It runs and drives like new or close to it. You seriously cannot here this thing when its running. It has the 230 straight six with 3 speed. Am radio and dealer add-on air conditioning(still have all the factory paper work for it) The ac also still works but needs charged. Its kinda beat up but not too bad. Most the parts, minus the front fenders of corse are rust free. I bought a '65 last weekend for parts. Gonna use the long fleetside bed off it for sure. Maybe doors and hood. The parts truck runs and drives and has a 283v8. still on the fence if I want to replace the good running 230 6-cyl. Any input, thoughts, or ideas would be awesome! Here are the pics:

Nice truck. Welcome to the forum. It's very difficult for most of us to find a truck from this series in such clean condition. If you intend to restore and sell it I'd say keep it stock. If you plan to keep it forever, build it in whatever configuration pleases you most. As if you could have ordered it new with whatever options you wanted. I’ve always had a fondness for the inline six, but there is a reason most run a small block Chevy. They are easy and comparatively inexpensive to build for either power or economy.

Thats a good point. I intend to keep this truck and drive it. As it is I really enjoying driving it back and forth to work everyday with the inline 6. Running 55mph tops and enjoying the drive. But, with the 283 I could run hiway speeds and probaly go on longer cruises easier. I intend to fix this truck up all stock. Well, not 100% stock of how it was when it was brand new, but all time era specific. Non of this power steering, disc brakes, 350 crate motor, 20" wheel b.s Nothing against that stuff, but I enjoy the older vehicles for what they where originally, not what I could make one into. The 283 would be pretty cool tho. All era specific, and would have alot more power than the i-6.

nice truck - love that color combo and the black wheels. welcome. If you're gonna keep her like you said - then I wouldn't hesitate to throw in the 283. BUT - keep in mind, unless you're twice as luck as the rest of us - and that 283 has all the stock a/c brackets etc - you could be in for a bit of a treasure hunt. That dealer a/c is awesome - there's been lots of talk on the site about the ol skool a/c underdash units, nice to see an original, especially one that still works!

EDIT - oh yeah, forgot to add - I was GOING to say keep it stock, I think that's the only way to go for a longbed stepside - then I say your note about using the donor longfleet. That's cool and I think if yhou do that, it also opens up more custom options. It's just personal opinion - but I always have thought that long steps look best in stock/restored condition - moreso that short stepsides or any fleetside. Short steps and any fleet side are prime candidates for lowering, you name it. Again, just my personal taste.

I still prefer the nostalgic feeling of the longbed stepside.
Before you decide to switch to the fleetside, you might check under the seat and see if the original spec sheet is under there.
I'd be inclined to keep the original stepside.
These longbed fleetsides aren't as unique as your stepside.

It is usually in the top section of the back of the seat, it is just a sheet of paper that is normally folded up.

ps you might think about adding a 3 speed OD transmission that way you could pick up the pace when cruising down the highway ....
