Powdercoating a wheel

What is a fair or average price to have an 8 X 15 steel wheel sandblasted and powdercoated?

Thanks
Mark

Re: Powdercoating a wheel

Give us some details. 1 side only? What color? Is the wheel clean? Is the wheel(s) free of grease/grime/dirt/rust? What is the current finish? Wheels requiring little cleaning, sandblasting and then powder coated are $40.00 per wheel, for one side and $60.00 per wheel for both sides. Wheels requiring extensive sandblasting with be based on a $60.00 per hour fee.

Re: Powdercoating a wheel

I just had all four of my steel wheels done.

200 bucks to prep, and PC all four. (I tried cleaning them myself, but 40 years of multiple paint coats didn't want to come off so easy)

Had them done in matte black.

Dropped them off on a Wednesday, and picked them up Friday morning.

I'm really happy with how they came out.

The color seems to matter also. I was told red is one of the more expensive.

Re: Powdercoating a wheel

Thanks guys, for now I am only going to do my spare as it will get mounted in the bed on a factory spare tire rack in a blazer/Jimmy. The wheel is in very good shape with a little rust at the lug nut area. There is a local powdercoater and he said $60 a wheel. I was just wondering if he was out of line. I guess he is in the ballpark

Thanks

I have factory hub caps on my wheels and about an inch or two of the wheel shows around the hub cap/wheel cover. I think factory is white but I am really liking that matte black! Decisions decisions!

Re: Powdercoating a wheel

Mark, that`s reasonable.I paid $260 the last set I had done. They were red and I`ve never heard color matter.i`ve had the same people do my powdercoating since the`80s.It started out at $25 a wheel just for powdercoating and $25 to blast.
I don`t think there`s any such thing as coating one side.

Re: Powdercoating a wheel

50 per wheel is dirt cheap to have them blasted and powdercoated it's more in 75-90 range each around here

reds cost more in powder and regular paint too

Re: Powdercoating a wheel

That`s crazy cheap.I guess they let the huge production runs pay for the little jobs.Figure the time/materials/equipment/electric/real estate and that ain`t no money.
