eaton axle trouble

ok, so i have an eaton h052/72 in my jimmy. the drums look to be like the 052 but it has the pinion load screw thing that i read only the 072s have.

im confused as to which axle i have?

my second question is re there diffrent axle widths in the eatons? if so what measurements? my eaton came outta pre 60's pickup and is significantly narrower than my front end witch is a 8 lug d44.

my third and last question is if i do a disk brake swap on it will it make the eaton wider at all? reason being im going to run 38x15.5x16.5 tires and am afraid its going to rub the inner fender well.

ive searched and cant get a straight forward answer.

Re: eaton axle trouble

I can't answer them all, but the HO52 also has the pinion preload bolt. I have read here on the board what the difference is (HO52 to HO72) but can't recall off the top of my head. Seems like HO72 is 1-ton only.... someone will chime in.

As to width, I know my D44 front is a bit wider than my HO52 rear axle, both OEM.

Re: eaton axle trouble

Switching to disk brakes will not make the axle wider. Lighter, but not wider.

Re: eaton axle trouble

i ran the HO52 and had questions on here once cause i had never seen an axle like it (new to 4x4). i was told the difference between the 52/72 is that 72 has bigger drum brakes. everything else was pretty much the same??? they both are rated 1ton axles.

here is a link to my old one: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=279277

like yukon said it wont make them wider.
