I have a 68 lwb and the bed looks like swiss cheese with a piece missing. Has anyone put a newer style bed on our year trucks? I have seen the step bed on sbw and they look pretty good, but what about fleetside lwb?

I've seen it done. I've never seen it look good.
Plenty of good beds around, you can even buy a new one from lmc.

I would prefer to keep the original bed, but it is pretty eaten up with rust. LMC does have all of the parts if I would like to part with about $3000.00.

I have been looking locally and the LWB beds are hard to find. There are SWB beds all over down here.

Anyway, just a thought.....

All kinds of great long beds up my way if ya want to make a trip to Southern Oklahoma got a buddy with several in his salvage yard. Bring some of those swb my way!!!

When I first bought my stepper, I seriously considered doing the late model bed swap.
After a while I reconsidered----and Im glad I did. The short answer is--yes, it will work, but it really doesnt look right.

There should be a lot of long beds for sale with all the current trend to cut frames down to short beds. Not so true if youre going the other way. I recently found a complete short step side bed for sale about 100 miles away, bought it for a spare--and sold it before I even got home with it!!

You are comparing apples to oranges on cost. You are looking at the cost of a new 68 bed, and a used newer bed. Why not find a used 68-72 long bed? They are fairly common and not much money.

If you post WTB in the parts forum, I bet you will find someone near you that has a long bed, if not I have one that I am not going to use.

You might have to widen your search area a bit and don't forget trailers made out of truck beds and frames. In the past couple of months I've seen at least two nice pickup boxes riding down the road as trailers that even had nice paint on them.

Since you asked, I'd prefer to see bare frame rails rather then a modern bed on our trucks.

I have been looking all over the Houston and surrounding areas for a new bed. The one that I have as can bee seen in previous pictures was a little crumpled and the floor looked like swiss cheese.

We took a little vacation to Stratford, OK last week and on the OK City craigslist up there, found this:

Guy up there had bought it for his project and then wrecked the truck before getting to use it.

Best part...... $100

Problem..... getting it back to Texas. I guess that is a good problem.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
