How low

I have a 72 Chevy LWB. I am making into a daily driver. I was wondering how low of a drop kit can I put on without having to alter the frame. I know this has been talked about before on here probably, but I am new here and don't really know how to navigate yet.

Re: How low

Usually a 4 front- 6 rear drop but that's on short beds. The long bed may bottom out at 6" rear. This also applies to trailing arm trucks, I'm not sure about leaf spring trucks.

Good luck, Rg

Re: How low

This topic has been beat to death daily. Use the search function in the upper right corner.

5" seems to be the standard for a decent ride before going with a C-notch.

Re: How low

Don't mind him Ratrod. If everyone just searched for answers this
forum would be like a ghost town.

I have a 4/6 drop on my 71 short bed with trailing arms.
As long as i'm not carrying a heavy load it doesn't bottom out.

Re: How low

Each truck is different. Some have had no issues related to a 6" rear drop, long or short bed. Others have had to put a c-notch in.

Re: How low

Hey neighbor. Welcome aboard. Please don't get the wrong impression of us as a whole. There are a few crusty ones here as there are in most any groups.
Being as you are new and unfamiliar with these forums look around and kick the tires. Check out the full list of forums and sub forums. There's something here for most anything you could need for these trucks. There's the general discussions forum at the top down to engines, drive trains, suspensions, electrical, body and paint and regional events. We even have a classified ads forum and a vendors section.
I can't tell you absolutely which drop kit you need for your truck. It depends a lot on how much spring sag it has already due to age or if it has been dropped some already, etc. I bet if you spend some time down in the suspension section you can find some truck pics with the stance you are looking for and the specs on their drop. 3" front and 5" rear is a very noticeable drop and you shouldn't experience bottoming out under normal use.
