Quick easy HEI hookup on 67/72 trucks

A while back I picked up an aftermarket Hei for the 71 and decided that I didn't want to cut up the wiring harness to hook it up along with the fact that an HEI needs a heavier wire running to it.

What I did was just tape the original ign wire into the harness so it was there if I ever had need for it while running a 10 gage wire from one of the hot with ign on pins on the fuse block.

That is one of the two pins you see in this drawing that are labeled Ign line.
Top right in this photo but it will be on the inside side of the fuse block in the truck.

it makes a simple hookup that leaves your original wiring uncut in case there is a reason to reinstall the

Ignition unfused... that's where most ppl hook it up.
If you are revving over 5 grand on a regular basis, it's better to go with a relay though.

I had to hook up my 87 GMC to the fuse block. Somewhere between pulling the 283 out and putting the 350 in...I lost the wire going to the HEI. So I hooked it up at the box. Worked fine.
