oil Pan 350

Hey all,

Is it possible to remove the oil pan on a 71 c-10 350 without lifting the motor? Its all stock and I need to replace the gasket but there is not enough room to do a good job. My pops has a picker but I'll have to wait til the weekend if i do have to lift it.

Thanks.

Pablo

I'm not sure about lifting the engine but I know it will give you more clearance on the crankshaft if the timing mark is at 6 o'clock.

You will have to lift the engine, but you can use a jack under the harmonic balancer and just undo the motor mount bolts. Keep an eye on where hte distributor hits the firewall.

If you don't have to remove the pan completely, there will be plenty of room. But cleaning off old hard gaskets while it's hanging there is not easy. Good luck.

if you have access to an engine hoist... then do it that way. You'll be better off.

Re: oil Pan 350

thanks guys, I guess I'll probably wait till I get to use my dad's cherry picker.
Too bad I guess I'll have to move to another part of the truck till this weekend.

Thanks for your help

...as you can see, it's a sickness we all have; why just replace a part when we can rebuild the whole truck! I suffer from this affliction just as much as the next guy...

Re: oil Pan 350

LOL,
That how I got in this mess, I had a stuck float on my quadrapuke, but I also had some better parts awaiting, new cam, edelbrock performer intake, camel hump heads, new lifters, hardened rods, nice acell distributer, and a nice coil.
All from a donor car, my V8 vega gt that got crushed by a tree.
So bad carb, why not redo the whole deal.....
Oh yeah and while I'm at it lets finish shaving the turn signal markers and badges too. The list is a monster!
