got these two 52's for free
1/2 ton father in law went inside to get a drink before driving down the road, and came back and the truck rolled into a tree!!! it has been converted to 12 volt but the cab and fenders need tons of work here is the other truck it's a 3/4 ton and engine doesn't run plan is to pull engine out of 1/2ton and swap it in 3/4 ton and do a complete rewire should keep me busy for a while if i can get it running and tagged the title is mine! Price is right. First truck, with the bent fender is the 3/4 ton, it has the 7.5' bed with 3 stake pockets. The second truck, 1/2 ton, is of the 48-50 vintage. Wing vents came in 51, push button door handles in 52. The 52 also had the Chevrolet side hood emblem without the model number below it.
That will have you taking the engine out of the 3/4 ton and putting it in the 1/2 ton, if I understand you right, which is what I would do. Killer on the 3/4 ton is gearing, should be 4.57 and can only be taken to 4.10 without a differential swap and the newer differentials are 3.5" wider. www.stovebolt.com is home for a lot of the AD truck guys.

i was looking for a 69 c 10 but you can't pass up free
thanks for the info fred!!!!!! i haven't gone in and looked at the vins or anything, and i am learning about these old trucks as i go i was just going by what i was told by my father in law he may have told me backwards the one with the dent, i was told has an internal oil pump in the engine and is not the original motor that came in the truck should be a fun project, just don't have a huge barn to work in right now |

I was looking at the pics thinking the exact thing...My money is that they are '50 models due to the side vents on the cab and the lack of wing windows. At any rate GREAT score!! Looking forward to seeing some progress pictures..And in the end you'll be glad that the 3/4 was the accident victim and not the 1/2 ton..The 1/2 tons tend to hold their value a little better. BTW- Where are you located?

Two possible locations for the vin. Some states used the cab i.d. plate, most used the engine serial number, stamped into a pad just aft of the distributor.
Both trucks original engine would have been the 216. Splash oil system, 15 psi pump and poured babbit rod bearings. Decent engine as long as the revs are kept low. Prolonged running above 2,800 or so rpm will stretch the rods. The engine in the picture appears to be a 235, going by the valve cover having flange bolts rather than center bolts. If the lifter cover stops at the top of the block, it's from the 235/261 family, full pressure oil with insert style bearings, production began in 54. To check, look for the block casting number, raised letters in the area of the starter. Decode it at www.inliners.org . Here's a shot of the 235 I put in my 52 a few years back. I did use the 216 valve cover. The lifter cover stops at the top of the block, on the 216 the lifter cover goes over the head, surrounding the spark plugs.

these trucks are in Winnsboro Tx on the farm, about 96 miles east of dallas and south of sulphur springs my camera died the day i took these shots i am going to get some good shots of the 2 trucks a fox was living in the 1/2 ton, i opened the door one day and he freaked and jumped out the window! my plan is to first strip the 1/2 ton down and tear the engine out and give it a full cleaning raise and the bed and cab off and clean the frame i am on a student budget so not going radical yet (mustang II front end) the bed in the 1/2 ton is solid (was not wood) the bed in 3/4 ton was wood and is gone, only sides are there i am in an apt right now so i have no garage, but i am planning on building a wind break to extend the barn a little i need to locate cherry picker to hoist out the 1/2 ton engine and get some shelves made to store parts as i pull them Last edited by escher; 04-20-2005 at 01:55 PM. |

Did you say it rolled into a tree? LMAO! It looks like it was rolling at around 180 mph!

these trucks are located at my weekend hangout, so work will be slow until i get out of my apartment more motivation to hurry up and get a house! and yes, it rolled down a hill around a group of trees and went to the right and smacked a tree, it almost made it with out hitting anything if you could just see the path the truck took on its own you would laugh my father in law is not interested in restoring it any longer too many other projects 1st thing on the list is to fix/adjust the brakes!
