Big Block casting #'s

What were the casting #'s used in the 71-72 402 BB. What it the 290 casting? Guys with original 402 BB please ring in. My truck appears to have a been a BB from the factory but at some point it was replaced with a 350. I would like to find at least the corrrect casting to put it back close to original. Head casting #'s?

to the board! The SPID, the sheet on the inside of the glove box door, will tell you the options that your truck originally came with

Also, we LOVE pics here, so to post, Hit the Go Advanced Button at the bottom of the page, write what you want, and go to manage attachments and browse for pics, if you have them on your computer, and if not, take a digital camera and take some for god's sakes!

Re: Big Block casting #'s

I wrote down the codes for the glove box. My wife has the camara in her car. It's not digital so that's a pain to get those developed.

It has the 1L4710 option with says 400CID. From what I've read this is the 402bb. The engine in the truck appears to be a 70 coded 350 SB though. Possibly from a C10 because it has a TBF suffix code maybe not. I see a bunch of codes on Mortec but I thought maybe there were specific ones for the c10/cheyenne.

290 heads are 69-70 oval port closed chamber heads, correct for 402 and others.

Check Mortec.com, great site for chevy castings.
