Question Changing to HEI, what's needed?

I'm getting closer to dropping in my '76 500cid Caddy motor into my '70 C/10. The motor has the stock HEI dist. and I'd like to know what I need to do with the FUSIBLE LINK? or any other wires / mods that need to be done to properly make this work. Tell me EVERYTHING I need to know! Thanks guys!

Pretty soon I'll be posting messages with my 500cid and 4.88's!! Can't wait!

You need to locate the "IGN UNFUSED" terminal on the fusebox in your truck, and run a 10-12 guage wire from that terminal to the BATT terminal on the HEI. You will also want to install an inline fuse holder on the wire too. Then, you are done.

Or remove the resistance wire at the firewall connector and replace the section removed with a 12 Gage wire and you'll need one of those special fuse block connectors. Someone on here referred to it as a type 56 connector. It basically looks like a spade connector with a split down the middle part of the way. The split allows the connector to snap into place in the firewall connector and be held there. When removing the old wire, remember this so you don't get upset trying to get the connector removed from the firewall connector . While the firewall connector is apart is a good time to decide if any other lines need to go through it. Like your tachometer and etc. It sure looks alot cleaner like that. You'll also need the female connector if adding lines through the block. You can also dump the yellow wire to the solenoid because it is no longer needed. Just for your info. The white resistance wire joins the yellow wire in the harness above the distributor in the wire channel. Theres alot of black tape on the line but it's not to hard to find.

Thumbs up Thanks for the Replies!

Thanks for the info! Electrical snafus aren't my cup of bourbon; I'd rather turn wrenches and bust knuckles than even LOOK at electrics! Guess I need to pony up some time, might as well be tomorrow! (Or the next day...............)
