tranny swap

so i just acquired an 81 gmc sierra grande to swap the motor into my 72 gmc. so my question is is the turbo 400 a direct swap for a turbo 350 short tail?? i plan on using the turbo 400 in my 60 that is sitting on a mid 70's blazer frame

Re: tranny swap

You'll need to change the end of the drive shaft that feeds into the tranny. T350 used a slip yoke, the T400 uses a different style, bolt on. You'll probably also need to short the drive shaft.

Not sure what is different on the kick down linkages between the two.

No it's not a direct bolt in, but very easily do-able.

Re: tranny swap

Not sure about the kickdown switch either. If there is one on the 81 tranny, you'll need to wire it up as well.
