twin shocks, soft ride springs......

couldnt find anything in a search but looking to improve ride quality on my stock 88 3/4ton 4x4 straight axle Sub.......mine has single but did GM go to the twin shock set up for ride quality?......whats the deal there?.......you see in the magazines companies advertise "soft ride" springs.....do they work? I want to keep the ride hieght stock or maybe slightly lifted.......finally , is there a consensus on the best shock(s) for this rig?......thanks, doug
