Heater core help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I made it to work this morning w/my temp gauge pegged. Looks like my heater core gave up the ghost (although there's a bunch of steam right now so it's difficult to judge 100%). I hope there's not too much internal damage.

What all is involved swapping these cores out? Are they like my 67/8 & you access them from the engine compartment after pulling off the evap case?

Let me know your experiences.

Fortunately, mine was already doneright before I bought the truck, so I have no experience with it.

Well, it may not be what it appeared. I went back out to check for leaks & after filling it up w/water & letting it idle for about 15mins it never got hot @ the upper radiator hose.

I thought that was weird & went to kill it to do further inspecting & the engine was bubbling up from the bottom hose . . . ..... but the top hose was ice cold.

So my guess now is my thermostat is stuck closed & not allowing water to recirculate. I'll know for sure in a bit when I tear into it.

The verdict: My thermostat . . .... or what was left of it, was long gone. I popped a new 180Â° one in & it now the top hose gets warm/hot & it will freakin' cook you in the cab

It's always nice when it's something simple. How cold is it going to get down there? I think it's suppose to hit -1 tonight, here in central MO.

Seriously, it was in the teens yesterday/last night (this morning too) & we even had some snow mixed w/the ever so lovely sleet to make the driving experience much more of a challange while out finishing up that Christmas shopping.

no kidding...the low this morning up here at the red river was only 11Â°.our entire driveway was solid ice.
