Calling all 5.3 &/or 6.0 owners...

Here's a pic request for you guys. I am seriously considering a swap in my truck from the 350 to the 5.3/4L60E and maybe later a 6.0 in my 67 with a 4L80E. I'd like to see what it's going to look like if I do this.

Thanks, Kelly

Nice work guys, im just wondering are you guys using the factory harness, or are you using a premade harness? (painless wiring for example). Just wondering as this is a very nice upgrade that i think looks pretty sweet under the hood.

Re: Calling all 5.3 &/or 6.0 owners...

Mine is a modified stock harness. I plan on building one from scratch though over the winter when I pull the motor for paint. I want to route it a little differently to clean it up.

Re: Calling all 5.3 &/or 6.0 owners...

Here is a pic of mine when I was 99% done.
It's done and been on the road for a few months now.
I used a modified stock harness (speartech.com) and a custom tune.

68 short step - did you use a different radiator? What about the gas tank? I am curious cuz i am about to do the swap myself but i am not sure what to go with for the radiator and i want to do this for as little money as possible. I sent in the stock harness off the 5.3 to speartech and they are building my harness from it.

I have so many questions but i dont want to hijack this thread.

Re: Calling all 5.3 &/or 6.0 owners...

Nice pics guys....keep 'em comin'!!

Truckman What year motor is yours? looks just like my neighbor's '99. Nice paint job BTW!

Hart Rod Supercharged, huh? Never thought of that....LOOKS FUN!!!

68 ShortStep Love that second truck...not too much into the stock cover. That said you did a great job hiding wires on the first one. I'll bet that cover cost a prety penny! Well done!

J Hart No worries!I need to learn as much as I can about these swaps if I am going to try it myself....there's no way you can hijack this thread so ask away!!!

Finally...Lucky and 68 GMC Custom...why a carb? I would think it would require a ton of work omitting the computer or modifying it.

Depends on how you want to set it up. If you go the carb'd route you use either GM's front mount dizzy setup, or for many, the prefered method of a MSD ignition box using the reluctor wheel for a reference. The MSD box fires the factory (or upgraded) coil packs. You still have a computer controlling your timing and spark, just not the fuel supply. And in most tests I've seen...the carb'd motor made more peak HP then the EFI version.

This is what I wish I could afford....the LSX 454

Re: Calling all 5.3 &/or 6.0 owners...

Well that argument can take up many many pages, but my reason is the fact that i read a story in Car Craft where they carb'd and cammed a 6.0 and made 550 HP. My interest in the motor is purely a horsepower addiction, and for the money that it takes to buy a used motor, add L92 heads and a big cam, it will make way more HP per dollar than a Gen I SBC. It really doesn't take much work, just bolt on the intake and MSD ignition box. I don't know if its is any simper than wiring it, but it doesn;t sound complicated. Plus it just looks cool with the coils on the valve covers.
