look what my uncle has in the backyard

man my uncle has had this truck in his backyard for years. it was all cherry in 2002 and since then it just sat because he works out of state. i told him give me the keys and ill start her up for you once in a while. he said no. he plans to give it to my cousin next year when he is a junior in highschool. by then it will need new paint, carberator, tires (sunrott) and the bed wood is weathered. waterspotted rallye rings and centers. a damn shame. he would rather have gym in the garage than a home for this beauty. what do you guys think? by the way no car cover and sits all year in the ca sun the interior is faded...

Re: look what my uncle has in the backyard

I just don't get it. How can you let something nice just sit like that?
A little cleanup and it would be a nice driver.

I hate to say it, but that kid will probably just tear it up, his pops doesn't have any respect for it so he won't either.

I hate it for you, but it's his truck. Have you tried talking him into fixing it up so it would be ready for your cousin?
Ask him to let you help him fix it up.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Why doesn't he give it to you? Is there any incentive to give it to your cousin, as in him actually being a true car guy?

Re: look what my uncle has in the backyard

I think it`s neat that he`s saving it for his son.I dunno...from where I`m standing it`s pretty darned harmless leaving a vehicle in the California sun than let it rot and mold under rain clouds and through winters with growth all up around it.That damage on the dash pad isn`t from sitting. It should be getting started from time to time. But,it doesn`t always matter. It`s just the safe thing to do.The paint will buff out.I don`t see how this uncle disrespects the truck, either. He wouldn`t own it if he didn`t appreciate it.He appreciates it enough to want his son to drive it.Most people don`t put their kids in 40 year gas guzzlin`trucks as their first vehicle unless it`s something they`re into.

Re: look what my uncle has in the backyard

I think the truck should at least be covered. I live here in SoCal and the sun destroys everything, paint, rubber, cloth, etc. You have to run the thing once in awhile and cover it up. If the cousin did not help build it, he will likely not respect all the work that went into it and will trash it. Hopefully, he will prove us all wrong.

i see your point but there is a thin line between carelessness and ignorance. my uncle makes 6 figures a year and is verrry narcissistic. he thinks he knows everything and everybody tells him to at least cover it up. i think he does it on purpose to tick people off. idk must be nice...he spent a lot of money fixing it up, dont you guys think that is just the dumbest thing to do?? why spend all that money just to have it rott? by the way the sun does affect the truck negativly, the tires that were once new are all sunrotted, the freshly reupholstered seats are faded to a light red instead of the bighter red. also the rubber around the windshield is cracking. i know that it aint mine, but do i have a good point here guys??

I do really understand. BUT it is HIS truck end of discussion?

If he wants to use it for target practice it is his truck. That would be a shame but his truck his choice.

I know it sucks, but it is his truck. All you can do is hope his son will take better care of it and enjoy it.

Re: look what my uncle has in the backyard

I think the OP has a good point and being family, I think he does have the right to nicely and politely advise his uncle. I don't think he should butt in or tell anyone what to do but I also think it is ok for him to kindly make a suggestion to his uncle . . . just once. If uncle tells him to go pound sand, end of dissussion, it's his truck.

I didn't see it that way. I have a big family here so not all cousins are from the same uncle (boy that doesn't sound redneck).

Re: look what my uncle has in the backyard

Look into my eyes...
You are getting sleepy......
One...Two...Three...

Now is the time to start working on your cousin. You will buddy up with him, he will now become your best friend. You will buy some import tuner magazines and get him interested. You will persuade him into thinking that that old truck isn't cool. You will buy a Civic and trick it out, but you wont fall victim to the import bug. Remember it's all part of your big plan. He will want your import. You will reluctantly trade him. You will then send Hellbent all your money, beer and nudy magazines...

At the count of three you will wake up and begin working your plan...
Three....Two....One!
