66 truck ideas

I have a 66 c10 swb small back glass I am wanting to get on the road then sell but I dont want to do a frame off like the last truck I had. This is my idea and I want some opinions on what you guys think. I have a 283 and a turbo 400 trans. My thoughts were paint the engine and engine bay install the engine and trans. Go through the brakes and whatever else it needed to make it a reliable driver. Then lower it as much as I can with out having to notch the frame. Someone has heated the springs in it now to lower it so they need replaced anyway. Then just prime it black and put some decent rims and tires on it and sell it. Any other ideas that might make this a good selling truck.

Do the electrical....new fuel tank....new brake master cylinder....headlights...tail lamps...turn signals....I can keep adding. lol.

The last thing you want to do is start buying a bunch of parts for a truck your trying to sell.

Make it run, make it stop and change out the heated springs then sell it. The buyer most likely has his or her own ideas of what they want to do with the truck. Time is money and money is money. The more you put into it the more you have to get out of it which might put your price out of reach for someone looking for a project. Let the next guy do the nickel and dime stuff.

I have restored 2 of these trucks and sold them and made decent money. I was wanting to put about half the money in this truck I did the others and sell it as a profit as well just not as much profit but also about half the time and work mainly time. So what I am looking for is ideas of a truck that people will want to buy and finish with there taste such as color and interior. I have found that a lot of people like an auto over a standard so the turbo 400 will be installed as well as the 283.

My opinion is to get it running well, with the 283. Put a 700 behind it ( for economy) then get it safe; brakes and electrical, replace the springs and get the interior cleaned up and presentable. Dont paint it unless your going to do all the body work too. let the new owner decide on what color and such.

Ok now I have decided to put a 350 with a turbo 400 in the 66. I was thinking about a lumpy cam as well. I want to keep the 283 for another project. Is the cam a good or bad idea?

If your just looking to flip it, forget the cam and just get it running good. If you get the truck at a low price and can fix it and flip it for profit, go for it! I was thinking of doing the same thing but buying cheap long beds and cutting them down to short beds and not doing any other work to them.

Yea, I agree with what has already been said. Don't think there is any "trick" that would make the truck more desirable. But I would definitely pay less for a truck that was primered. I would leave original or old paint to show its not recently filled with bondo. Just get it running and cleaned up and sell it.

I wanted to know myself, so I started this truck to see if I can use it as a part time job. Completely tore it down and gave the body some paint. I went through mostly everything to make it a driver and the new owner could upgrade or drive it as it is. I have been watching the net so I can price the truck. We will see when I completely finish it and the weather breaks. It is only worth what someone will pay for it and I hope just to come out even worst case.

Ok so now I have decided to do another frame off on this 66. I am planning on painting it light blue with a white top. A friend of mine is wanting me to paint the interior the factory color. What do you guys think? The last two frame off trucks I did I painted the interior to match the exterior. Which do you prefer? The engine is a 350 with a 400 transmission.

I think to appeal to the most buyers, the factory color is better. Seems like everyone can relate to the factory color, but others may not like the color you choose for the interior. Sort of the same thing for selling a house.
