64 Chevy with 350 Small Block Fan Question

Wondering what do you guys recommend for a great cooling fan on my truck. The issue I have now is that if I am stuck in traffic for like 5 minutes( pray not more) and the outside temp does not matter. My gauge goes almost to the end but as soon as I am moving its back to the 190 to 200 degree mark..

Wondering what is recommended as summer time is coming and I am in a very hot climate????

Thanks in advance

Re: 64 Chevy with 350 Small Block Fan Question

What do you have in it now for fan and shroud? What is in the truck for engine and radiator? May be able to give better answers.

Re: 64 Chevy with 350 Small Block Fan Question

I put a 16 inch electric fan in my truck and never overheat. I have driven it in show traffic at the GG's when it was 105 outside and it ran 190.

Re: 64 Chevy with 350 Small Block Fan Question

I'm running a factory replacement copper rad, and a clutch fan from LMC. stays at 180 at the time in summer.

Re: 64 Chevy with 350 Small Block Fan Question

The factory clutch fans are awesome. I test fitted the factory clutch fan assembly from my 1969 Chevelle with 350 into my 64 C10 and it fit fine, so I ordered another 69 Chevelle clutch fan setup for the truck. It's been cooling the 350 in my C10 great for many years.

It is aftermarket like sunpro. I measured the fan and it is a 13" fan and the shroud measures 26.5 x 16 and the core of radiator measures 23.5 x 15.5.

Re: 64 Chevy with 350 Small Block Fan Question

I think the 5 blade flex fan on mine is 15" and has about a 1/2" gap between it and the shroud. 13 seems a little small. Can you post a pic of your setup?

Re: 64 Chevy with 350 Small Block Fan Question

If its heating up that quick either partially stuck thermostat, or no thermostat, plugged radiator, to small a radiator, you really need to confirm all of the above....are you using antifreeze, good rad cap, radiator holding pressure...?
