Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
All right guys...this is not gonna be a quick build, nor is it gonna be a show truck...simply going for something a lil different...
Meet Annabelle...an 85 C10 LB...she's got 133,000 miles on her and is all original...perfect interior and only a few spots of surface rust... Granted, she looks good just as she is, but she has asked for some modifications...starting with getting rid of the sissy V-6 under the hood... Like I said, this is gonna be a lil different...it would have been easy to buy a nice, new crate motor, but...I found a 68 caprice that had been totalled in 1970 in a car graveyard...the Caprice had 16,000 miles on it and under the hood was a 396 with a turbo 400 attached...after handing over a few hundred dollars, the 396 was mine... We are just getting started and here are few pics to start things off |

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
since I'm on a pretty tight budget (who isn't) I've had to make a few changes in the original game plan...I really wanted to paint her black with very little chrome, but as we all know a complete color change is a little costly...
As I mentioned earlier, she is almost completly rust free, so there is very little body work to be done...with this in mind, I've decided to re-paint her a slighlty darker red and go with an SS stripe theme... going for a mild 3/5 drop and run 18's...still researching on how I wanna upgrade the suspension, but Ridetech is only a couple of hours away and I really like their new coil over system...of course, suggestions are always welcome!!! these are the wheels I hope to order this week |

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
Cool truck! But the story of the 68 Caprice made my Jaw drop! I'm a big fan of the 65-70 Big body Chevrolets. I owned a 68 Impala SS Convertable and a 2 door coupe parts car at the same time. Also had 2 1965 models at the same time. It just blows my mind how that engine and tranny could still be in that car since 1970!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did it have the hood over it, or not? The insides will probably be very rusty and have to be beaten apart.... Good luck with the new project. PS. that car will have a 4 arm 12 bolt rear end, maybe with a factory posi; that is worth some money to the B-body guys

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
yea DB, I was pretty amazed myself...and I'm sure it's not gonna look pretty when we open it up, but I have a few up grades in mind...
As far as the rear end...as soon as we pull the eng/tran (hopefully tomorrow), we are gonna flip the caprice over and see what we have...can't tell now cause the rear is buried in mud... |

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
If it has front disc brakes, that's another sell item also! Just get the whole spindle with everything, calipers, brackets, rotors. Looks pretty rotten from the pics........

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
Well, it's a dreary day and out of pure boredom I decided to start play with the interior...as I mentioned earlier it is in perfect condition but is an amazingly ugly burgandy color...
years ago I had good luck turning a 69 GTO's green interior to black, so I thought I'd try it again...I am really impressed with how it came out... I used Duplicolor's grease and wax remover and then hit it with Dup's black plastic and vinyl spray paint...almost too easy...we'll see how it stands up... |

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
I forgot to mention that on the valve cover of the 396 was a plate that said Chevy's #1 team Tonawanda...I did some research and found that GM has a plant in Tonawanda NY (didn't realize that before), I couldn't find if there was anything special or different about the engines produced there...if anyone has any info, please share...thanks

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
ok...I can rebuild the top end of a Harley EVO motor with my eyes closed, but it takes me 2 hours to get a heater vent assembly back toghether in the proper way...wth? As I have read on here many, many times...take pictures of everything before you pull it apart...
I am sooo ashamed... Last edited by panhead671; 03-14-2011 at 04:47 PM. |

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
The info I know about Tonawanda, is that they mainly built big block Chevrolet engines; and were VERY GOOD at it. The reason I know this, you ask? I had a 1970 Monte Carlo with a SMALL BLOCK 350 2 barrel Tonawanda built engine in it!!!!! That engine was so smooth. It lasted 250,000. miles (150,000. I put on it), but didn't last one day with the "new" owner He sent one of the rods through the block!

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
Thanks DBLSPRT...I did some more research and surmised exactly what you told me...the engine and tranny get pulled tomorrow (if it stops raining)...on the brakes, the front are drums - sooo...
after we get the motor out, we're gonna flip the car over (don't think we can hurt it much ) and pull the rear end and see what we've got...then it is off to the scrap yard for some $ to go towards the 396 rebuild... In my Harley days, I always had great luck and performance with edlebrock and always had headaches with Holley on my boat...so I think I'm gonna go with an Edlebrock manifold & carb setup... won't know what all is gonna need done until we crack it open, but I have been out of the car/truck scene for several years and am a little behind on what's new and exciting for big blocks...so please send suggestions this way... Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
Rain has ruined the plans for the engine pull...I don't care how muddy it is tomorrow...that W is coming out!!!
Also, quick question guys...As I should earlier I repainted the kick panels black using duplicolors vinyl paint...it was a high gloss and it looks good, but looks like it was just sprayed with amor all...I looking for opinions on how you'll think this would look on the dash and door panels...the only other option i can find so far is pretty much a flat black....little help please Fris |

Re: Annabelle's transformation 85 C10 project
Duplicolors vinyl spray rocks!!! re-painted the door panels from burgandy to black...looks great and if you look close, you can see the ugly burgandy dash that is up next...it has one small crack in it that I am going to try and repair...I'll let you know how it goes...

I really like the way the door panels came out. Any special primer that need to go on before the paint?
