Temp Sensor and Mechanical Oil Pressure Line

I ordered a new temp sensor for my 327 and it arrived today and it fits in the intake - however I'm told that it's better to utilize the spot in between 1 & 3 on the head itself - now it appears that the hole is a bit smaller and this sender won't work there. Anyone have a part number for a sender that will fit in that location?

Next question: Is there a benefit to having the mechanical oil pressure line run to the back center of the block versus down on the side of the engine by the oil filter?
