Demon or Holley

I installed a speed demon 650 in my truck over the weekend, and I got it running pretty good, but it's leaking a little gas. Now I called Jegs and they told me to ship it back to them and they'll give me a refund or exchange. Now before I just re-order the same carb, how much better/worse would a Holley street avenger be??? Might be a dumb question as I've heard Demons are superior, but right now I'm not feeling too good about Barry Grant in general. I mean I just spent $500, and now I have to wait another couple weeks for another carb by the time UPS, and Jegs do their jobs. I've had Holleys in the past and they've been okay, they always run rich but I've never had to send one back. Any input is appreciated..........

I just went down the same path. I was directed to Patrick at http://www.pro-system.com/ by the guys at NastyZ/28.com. It is the best carb that I have ever owned.

Re: Demon or Holley

He builds them for HiPo street. That is what I had done. Mine is on a small block 408 in a '73 Camaro. I was having timing and carb issues but once I put on the Pro Systems carb, they almost all went away. It did cost me about $800.00 though. After futzing with my Holley and timing for two weeks, I was ready to pay!

Re: Demon or Holley

HOLLEY IMO, there has been too many issues with the Demon line as of late. It's a shame too because they seem like really good carbs just quality issues.

Re: Demon or Holley

Neither, my choice would be an edelbrock. Now, I had a Holley, and it ran really rich, and would flood over. That, though, was MY fault for not adjusting it, but there were some other issues with my truck, and it wasn't running the greatest anyway. Then one of my friends gave me a 600cfm Edelbrock, and I absolutely love it. I don't know how hi performance your truck is, but I think that the edelbrock is much more streetable. I will give the Holley the advantage on PRECISE tunability. my 2 cents, Justin

Re: Demon or Holley

Bad72c10, My truck is more high performance than it is streetable. I had a Carter AFB which is like an edelbrock. I finally decided to re order the Demon. It was really easy to adjust and I had it running real well. My truck hadn't ever ran that good, plus it seemed to do better on fuel when I wasn't stomping it. Plus it would light up the tires when I floored it. The old carb would have issues off the line. BTW what part of NM are you from?...Thanks...
