If you want to read about something that will really save you gas, read about the Pogue carburator; patented in 1933 by Charles Pogue, this baby gave new meaning to the term "running on fumes". He realized that actual gasoline, and even gasoline droplets do not burn in an internal combustion engine; it is actually the fumes which explode, meaning that most of the gas going in is not burning, not expending energy, and is going right out the tailpipe. He devised a carb that fed an engine fumes, not gasoline, and was quickly bought out by oil companies (as one usually imagines with any good $$ saving invention involving gasoline).

A group of scientists built their own version of the Pogue carburator in the mid-late 70's and were able to get 100MPG out of a 1972 Duster with a 318 as one example. There are others, but search on Charles Pogue; talk about interesting.

Absolute and total horsesh*t, all these devices are normally is a magnet, there has been tests run on them by some off the classic car mags here in the UK and not one of the many such devices sold did a thing. (mind you, there was one attached to the fuel line attached to the Holley carb that the previous owner had replaced just before I bought the truck) I guess there's one born every minute!

It works I have one of them on my fuel line.

What it is is a powerfull set of magnets. They work by traping the rust particles in your fuel (kind of like, what a BigMac does to your arteries). This turns into a rust ball and stops or restricts the fuel flow to you engine, there by saving tons of fuel. Its a simple idea....no fuel....no waste

If they work, why wouldn't Detroit be using them? They love using good gas mileage as a selling point.

I have also heard of that Pouge carb.....i am pretty skeptical though. Next year in college i start taking classes in thermodynamics....so hopefully i will have enough knowledge to see if at least the Pouge carb would work in theory

I figured it out once that if I bought everything in the J.C. Whitney catalog that was supposed to give me 20 more horsepower and 10% better gas mileage, my truck would have 963 horsepower and get 128 miles per gallon.:p

I still see people wasting their money on junk like this. I work on cars for a living, and you would not believe some of the things I've seen people try. The little magnets that attach to the fuel line is still one of the dumbest Ideas I've seen though. The "tornado "
is another one. Then there's all the "Magic" fuel and oil additives, but I won't even go there right now.

very intresting. i heard a similar story about a guy who invented a knid of light bulb that would never burn out, bought out by the big corps...........don't know if its true.
