Key stuck in the door lock (lock jammed)

I was trying to lock the door and now the key is stuck and will not return to the upright position so it can be removed. I have the door panel off and can not figure out the problem. The door lock knob will not move up or down manually or with the key. I can open the door from the inside and out side with the handle but the outside push button is not engaging the door mechanism properly. I am going to try and find the online service manual to get a better view of what is going on and what is bound up. The door latch mechanism apparently has a spring and I think that spring may be dislocated and causing the jam. Any ideas?

Re: Key stuck in the door lock (lock jammed)

I don't think that spring is supposed to be in that position. I have looked at the other doors and do not see that spring.

Have you tried pushing the spring down with a small screwdriver, then try the key. You might be able to see the latch if you roll the window down and use a good strong light.

With the window up can you reach inside the door and move the lock lever with your hand? I posted a couple of pictures in this thread that might help.

Re: Key stuck in the door lock (lock jammed)

Thanks Leon. I think the spring you refer to in the 2nd thread is broken.
