OK. Here's the deal. Has anyone ever done a firewall transplant? My current truck's firewall is pretty chewed up and I would like to replace it. I have a donor cab that I can either take pieces from or completely refurb and put on existing chassis. What would you guys do? Thanks

I think if it was me I'd just swap cabs if it's got alot of rot on it, and the donor cab is in better shape. just my 2 cents, but anything is doable with a little determination and alot of cussin.

I was gonna suggest a cab swap also, much easier than swaping firewall. But this all depends on which cab is in better shape. If the firewall is the only thing wrong with the original cab then I would swap firewalls. Unless the donor cab is premo.

Donor cab is not perfect but will need to be blasted or dipped and rockers/floor pans replaced. Firewall on donor is about as good as I have seen. How would you go about cutting out the firewall?

if i was going to mess around with a firewall i'd just notch it out and smooth it so i could move the engine back a couple of inches for a better weight distribution

with the firewall off, the only thing holding the truck in shape would be the windshield frame and rear... if you can brace it well enough to maintain the shape, try it.

I've done it on other trucks, but not a 67-72. It's not that hard, just cut it in the windshield posts and across the floor between the door openings. That's the easiest way. Be sure to measure twice and cut once., and make sure that your doors fit before final welding. I have a 72 blazer that I plan to do this to one day. Of coarse, you'll also have the vin tag to deal with.
