rare truck????

i saw this 70 1/2 ton in my local pull-a-part. after checking it out i discover it was a factory big block. i would think 1/2 ton big blocks would be rare? it also had a bedside toolbox that rusted away and was covered up . i took the grill shell which was in great condition and cost $25 plus i took the trans tunnel i never seen a high hump that was not 4x4 or 4 speed it only cost $4. i looked at the SPID and it said 396 but a sticker under the hood said 402 . is the glove box door most likley from another truck? im getting ready to put a 402 in my 1/2 ton that had a small block it figures motor towers where gone!

Re: rare truck????

396 and 402 are the same - i.e. a .030 over 396 is a 402. Chev switched from 396 to 402 as standard big block in about 70, so it's posisble the SPID still says 396 and you have the stock 402. Not a rare truck, even in a half ton. Glovebox likely original - they sometimes came in black. But who knows - onlyh way to confirm is to see if the VIN on the glovebox matches the VIN on the metal VIN tag. Good deal on the grille.

Re: rare truck????

I'd go back and see if it has the big block engine towers. They are a quick $125 or more on ebay!

Scratch that! I see you already looked for them. LOL

Re: rare truck????

Looks like a pretty loaded truck. The last year for 396 was 1969,but for whatever reason the SPIDs still read 396 through '71. That high hump is worth at least $75.

You might see if it still has the heat shield on the lower right side firewall/floor pan too. It is held on with two bolts through the pass side floor board. They can be worth 35 or 40 bucks if they are in good shape...
