Assembly Date code Question

Hello all! My first thread!
I have a 1972 Chevy K-10 4x4 and I am looking for a correct engine block. I need to find the date of assembly of the truck in order to get a date correct block. Where do I locate the assembly date of the truck? The glove box door and tag on the drivers door opening are no help. Thanks!
By the way, I am looking for a 350 4bl, manual trans. block........

Re: Assembly Date code Question

If you post the following part of your VIN, I think we can get within one month for you. CKE142S167XXX. I would need the part beginning with the plant code (S in this example) followed by at least the next three characters (all numbers). Some of us have collected a significant amount of data on VIN/Build Dates. You can also check the dates on your seat belts.

Re: Assembly Date code Question

Also check your drivers door in the latch area. There might be an assembly date sticker there. I'm not talking about the Vin tag thats riveted on. What I'm referring to is a blue sticker applied to the door itself. Once you know the month you can lookup the date/model engine codes on the web.

there is also a date tag on the transfer case.

OK, THANK YOU! Got it off the door. It is a pretty beat up decal, but reads 2772, which I take as 2/7/72. Good. I found a 4 bolt main block dated D112 which I think will work.

Re: Assembly Date code Question

. . . .

Did you get the date from the upper right corner of the door sticker ?

Below is one from a 72 Longhorn with the date of 2/72 ( February )

Yeah probably 2/72. What is the full number stamped on the pass side top of deck (in front of head) on the D112 block?

It is "V0412TRK", (K20, 4 bolt, 175hp)....Closest I can get. I will probably deck it anyway for peace of mind (so everything is straight)

Crap, you are right. Won't work for me if my truck was assembled in Feb.

It's an eight foot bed with an extra six inches added in the front ( as seen in the picture below by the vertical line in front of the tool box )

Larger slide-in campers could be used.
