Re: Ball joints

If you have both spindles, check the size. If you want to make it easier for the swap, get '87 or earlier spindles. Hopefully someone else will chime in that knows more.

Re: Ball joints

Found 71- 87 balljoint for 3/4 ton will work now getting old one out and new ones in. I cant find anyone that has the tubing that sits under the old ball joint to press through. Has anyone done this?

Re: Ball joints

Yesterday i removed the old upper and lower all joints and my drum brakes from my 70, and replaced them with new 73-87 upper and lower ball joints, and the spindles/discs from an 84. its not quite sitting right so it needs bit more work. we had trouble removing the original upper ball joints cause they werre rivoted on. we just drilled them out and chiseled them off. the lower ball joints came out with a hammer as long as you put a sturdy support under the lower A arm. Then, to install the new lower ball joints we just borrowed the "c clamp" tool from our local gas station/shop. worked well. But the wheels are tiled in a lot at the bottom, so Im thinking ill have to remove some shims from the upper A arms.

Re: Ball joints

Generally you beat the lower ball joints out with a BFH Big F%^&*@# Hammer. LOL My truck '69 1/2 ton I used 72 ball joints and stuff for the spindles Disc brake conversion.
