Re: Factory spotlights
spotlights were never installed from the factory but they were a dealer installed option and yes the same thing goes for square bodies. you can put any spotlight in these trucks as long as you drill the whole right and get the right bracket to go to the year, make and model of the vehicle i have a spotlight on my 67 CST and my 67 GMC

Re: Factory spotlights
Just do a search for Unity spotlights and you should be able to find a lot. The important numbers are of course the proper braket that mounts to the "A" pillar. They are vehicle specific and handed. Be careful on eBay some people consider anything they have as gold. Seen brackets there several times what the manufacturer sells them for currently.

Re: Factory spotlights
The ones on our trucks should have the little tag on top that says GM in red letters.

Re: Factory spotlights
Yep,GM accessory, but not factory. You can buy the exact light from Unity, but it won't say GM. They ain't cheap. I haven't looked into if they still can supply the proper mounting for these trucks. Probably slim chance, but who knows.

Re: Factory spotlights
If you will slip over to the Suburban forum and find "My latest toy" you will find my '69 GMC Ambulance with left and right spot lights. If I recall several of these that we purchased new came equipped with spotlights. Regardless of factory or dealer installed they were made by Unity who is still in business. The spotlights came with "Unity" name tags but Unity offered "replacement" logo tags for most any vehicle make. As for used spotlights on Ebay, as previously stated "since it came off of a police car or fire truck" it is worth a fortune to some sellers. NAPA carries new spotlights for just a few dollars more (that are sure to work) but just like the used ones you will have to get the correct "vehicle specific" bracket from Unity. The brackets come with a paper template to show proper placement and also come with mounting instructions which is important so that the hole is drilled on the proper angle. Also note that the interior lamp wiring (as well as the stop, turn and tail lights on Suburbans runs up the "A" post and is easy to drill through. Good luck with your quest.

Re: Factory spotlights
If you want the spotlight to look correct you'll have to find an old one with the real chrome bulb housing and Bakelite type handle. The newer ones have a plastic bulb housing with a replaceable H1 bulb and the handle is plastic and rubber. I have an old one I found at the salvage yard, it came off an early '80's GMC truck and the bracket lines up with the holes in my '70 Suburban's A pillar. My Suburban had one installed at the dealer when it was new, but someone swiped it over the years while it was parked as well as the old Ramsey winch on the front bumper.

Re: Factory spotlights
I dont think there 'handed'. I pulled some spots offa 72 1 ton chevy. Kept the nicer one for myself (dis assembled and rebuilt it) and sold the other to ricky 67chevy1series Both brackets looked the same to me Im not sure which of us is using which lamp (right/left)..
Idk lol

Re: Factory spotlights
Just went to the Unity site. The correct current bracket kits listed are 202 and 202RH @$58.56 each. Since many kits listed do not have a corresponding RH kit I still believe the brackets are handed. The spotlights are not of course.

Re: Factory spotlights
I have two dealer installed ones that I was going to use, but then I saw the ones at Unity. when the time comes I'm just going to buy a new one. The forty year old ones are kinda cool, but no match for brand spanking new =)
Old ones aren't for sale ... maybe someday down the road, but not right now.

Re: Factory spotlights
I bought a Unity one for my K10 and it was a nice kit. The paper template was easy to line up and it was a fairly easy install. I do remember needing a fairly big drillbit though. Chris

Re: Factory spotlights
Can anyone shed some light on the last option on each side of this spid?
Factory spotlights maybe? On a side note, this had the sport bucket seats with no console.

Re: Factory spotlights
Those are factory installed spotlights, along with the H.D. bucket seat they were specia order "fleet" options.

Re: Factory spotlights
BTW on the handing issue I looked up my IHC pickup and it uses a right kit on the left side and a left kit on the right side.

Re: Factory spotlights
My Panel had spot lights at one time-all the holes are there, but they were long gone when I got it. I'm trying to decide whether to weld up the holes or get some spots.

Re: Factory spotlights
Special k tim, it had the same buckets as you have pictured. Didn't look as if it ever had any other seats in the rear. (it was a burb) And no console.
