Radiator Overflow Tanks

I had to order a replacement overflow tank for my truck recently. I got the first one on and found out it leaked. Sent it back and got a replacement and it leaked also. Sent it back for a refund. Both of those tanks leaked in the same place as the original one on my truck which, as far as I can tell, is right down near the bolt hole closest to where the overflow tube connects. Does anyone have a good way to seal up a hole in one of these tanks, or do you know where I can get one that want leak. Thanks.

Not really sure how to seal it up. I have a 2 liter right now for an over flow bottle . Mine leaks in the same area your talking about. I think its only a few years for that type of over flow bottle also.

Where did you order it from? I got one from LMC and it worked just fine.

Re: Radiator Overflow Tanks

I got this stuff called "Seal-All" at the local NAPA. It says it will work on anything including gas tanks. I used it to hold my weatherstripping & it seems like top notch adhesive/sealer.

Re: Radiator Overflow Tanks

The overflow tank is thermoplastic, so is an ordinary plastic milk jug. I have used strips cut from a milk jug as 'filler rod' and a solder gun as a 'torch' to weld up holes and repair cracks before. Sounds but it does work.

Re: Radiator Overflow Tanks

I found the leak on the old tank that was on the truck. It was at the base of the nipple. I found some of that "Seal All" bowtier was talking about (good stuff) and smeared all around it. That's all it took, no more leak. Thanks to you all.

Re: Radiator Overflow Tanks

I pitched my plastic one and installed an aluminum tank from an aftermarket supplier.

There are many different ones on the market. Look at Stylin Concepts for the ones that fit later model Chevy trucks. I put in the tanks for my windshield washer and radiator overflow that fit into a 88-98 Chevy pickup. They can be bolted right to the side of the fenderwells (Original mounting spots, but new mounting holes) and look real decent. There is also Summit racing, Jegs, Yogi's, and may other off-market suppliers on the web. There are tanks of all sizes. The one that I am going to put in my 68 Chevy C-10 is from "Be Cool" radiators and it is of a decent size.

Glad it worked for ya. My door weatherstrip had came loose twice so I wanted to try something different. Worked like a charm, been holding almost a year now.
