Interesting find

So earlier this week I brought in my 72' to my high school auto shop and my teacher had me run the numbers on the motor to see if I have matching numbers. After a lengthy process of cleaning grime off the back of the motor, the casting numbers read out to be 3970014, which is the casting number for 350 small blocks that came in Camaro's produced between 1970 and 1973. It came with a factory horsepower rating of 300hp.
I just thought this was pretty cool to share.

Re: Interesting find

Looks like that casting number could have been used from 68 to 79 and was used in cars and trucks. Also 2 or 4 bolt mains.

I think you should do a little bit more digging into the casting numbers on each part to really decode the whole engine.

To see what it was originally installed in from the factory check the stamped numbers on the boss, just in front of the passengers side cylinder head. That should tell the real story....

And I thought I was going to be jealous! Just kidding, what ever the whole story never loose your enthusiasm for what you do.

You do have to look for the good in these! Most people see it from behind me!
