Tach?
I looked at a truck today for some parts for my 64 C60 project. It turned out to be a 63 and I was bummed. It did however have a tach mounted on the top of the dash, and looked to be original to the truck. Did the general have a accessory tach availble in the early 60's? it was really cool I might go back and get it. The saet looked to have the original cover as well with a smallish hole on the drivers side. Is it the same seat as the 64? I am thinking the grille surround is not the same in 63 as 64-5-6 is that right? I am very new to this body style I have been making a living on late model truck since 1987 [88and up] and in the past year or two come in to contact with some 67-72 stuff, but this truck is all new[started to say foreign but stopped!!]to me

Re: Tach?
I can't say for 63... but there's a factory tach available for '66.

Re: Tach?
I've seen them for the '64 (silver housing) and the '65-'66 (black housing), but never seen one for a '63 or earlier. That certainly doesn't mean they don't exist, though.
Any way to get pictures?

Re: Tach?
The factory Sun in-dash mounted tach came out in 1960 and used a tach sending unit through 1962 when it was transistorized for the 1963 model year. All 60-66 tach fit inside the cluster and look identical to the naked eye from the front.
The only thing that ever sat on top of the dash was the accessory CLOCK not tach and it was Silver in 1960-64 and Black in 65-66. |

Re: Tach?
The seats interchange from '60-'66. I believe the grill panel should be the same from '63-'66. However the mounting holes for the grill may be different.

Re: Tach?
You could get a columb mounted tach on the GMC's. There was a columb mounted tack for Cheverolet as well in 65 at least. Here is a picture of one mounted. See first post.
