I just saw a preview for next weeks gas monkey where they are building a ad truck..fingers crossed they don't go all stupid on it..they'll still probably ask for (on tv) and get $80, 000 for it..

They will sell it to the first clown thru the door for stupid money and three seasons from now you will catch glimpses of it sitting in the background.. Like so many past big $ sales..

Re: gas monkey ad

I refuse to watch those shows that do the "we are going to slap this thing together in a few days and make silly money".

I watch Kindig's show because he never once says anything about money including how much was spent or how much he made on a deal but there is always something said about the quality of the work they do. I might not much like the finished style of the build but appreciate the work and skill that go into the builds.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

As for Gas Monkey......I've always wondered why, when they sell a car, I often see the same car in the background on various episodes? Perhaps they film episodes and "paste" tapings together out of sequence?

Anyone know?

Made for tv..they always seem to build a car in 2 weeks and always sell it..for ridiculous money..I've noticed the "sold" cars in the background of many episodes..made for tv..

One of my favorite shows. I know its TV but it seems he treats his team well. I also like how they speak about how long these builds real take. Enjoy his designs as well.

This. I live in the area so when I know the swapmeet they bought something at is several months before the one they sold it at (2 weeks after buying), its pretty obvious its surreality TV.

Not to mention a lot of their work is hacked.

Sadly I don't think I can afford one of his designs. I would like to see the early 50s suburan coverted into a truck they created. Very cool build.

He's had this truck up at the West Coast Goodguys show the last 2 years up in Pleasanton.

To be honest i'm kinda "meh". Don't get me wrong, the work done was amazing and well thought out but, why not do that to an AD truck (Its not like they're hard to find ) or do the same level of work on the Burb, but keep it a Burb.

The work was top notch though and he was real nice to talk to in person. On a related note, i got a chance to KC Mathieu, who did alot of Gas Monkey's early paint jobs, at last year's Goodguys and again really nice guy. We actually spent alot of time talking about the weather...end of the day, its entertainment and fun to watch...better than watching "Flip or Flop" for the 5th time with the wife.

I agree with you about putting all that design into an AD, which he's done. Just thought it was a cool out of the box design. Of similar note my wife likes watching all the home shows, which I usualy tune out.

Re: gas monkey ad

The GAS MONKEY'S upset me since they bring in a reasonably good looking vehicle, then the "master mechanic" (joke), goes about tearing everything out of it, puting in a new suspension, new rear end, new transmission and a new engine, WHEN all that was needed to be done was refurbish what came in it. And Richard asks for 2 to 5 times more than it's worth and complains he didnt' get as much money as he wanted I especially scoff when they remove a perfectly good carbureted engine with EFI. OUCH!!!!

Re: gas monkey ad

I am guessing since all these shops are TV reality shows over a $100 US dollars an hour. There are always people that haven't a clue which side of the wrench to use will pay the price.

In my area even the Monroe muffler shop gets $100 an hour, in fact they were charging that before the new car dealers...

Ha! I saw part one last night! They're frustrated because they can't get the hood to fit or the doors to line up! Maybe they should have checked this site for pointers! LOL!

Re: gas monkey ad

Shop rate is in direct relation to you over head for where you are from what I have seen in most all automotive businesses around the country and a lot of others. Have a high profile location and a spiffy building and you have to charge a lot more per hour to cover expenses than the guy with the shop a couple of miles off the beaten path who still has a nice shop and turns out equal quality work but doesn't pay for the privileged of being in the hot business area of the city.
