Header and Cam Opinions
I have my truck torn down for some upgrades. Need some help and opinions.
Is there a shorty header available for lowered trucks? I am running the long tube hooker headers but am worried about ground clearence. Second, looking for opinions on the best cam. Running a mainly stock 350, performer intake and edlebrock 1406 650 cfm carb, 3.73 rear end and a rebuilt t350 with plans to install a 1800-2000rpm stall. Thanks.

Comp. 268 Cam without a doubt
I would put a Comp 268H cam and lifter kit in there so fast it will make your head spin. You dont want to go any bigger and any smaller would be pointless. You have the right gear and a converter would only help it. No vaccume problems with that cam and a good slightly rough sound. DONT GO ANY SMALLER. Trust me, Youll like it. Used several on the same set up.
Let me know how it works. |

Re: Header and Cam Opinions
as far as the performance aspect goes, shorties are not what i would be considdering. but there are many companies out there that make shorty headers, which are little more than a glorified exhaust manifold. you have 2 styles to choose from. you have the type that look similar to the ram horn exhaust manifolds with the center dumps, and the other type that have the dump more towards the rear. you really shouldn't have any clearance issues with the shorties, but i would definately see if you would still be able to use your long tubes. as far as the cam thing is concerned that is a hard thing to recommend. if you are going to use the 1800 stall converter then i would look for a cam that has an 1800-5800 rpm power band. and also i would change to an intake that has a 1500-5500 rpm power band as well. my 2 cents
