Header paint problem

HELLO GUYS

I just bought some header paint high temp and after painting them the paint is burning off and turning brown .The headers are on the truck I masked a bunch off to paint them I dont get why the paint burned off

Header paint is a gimmick to get your money, I gave mine 3 coats and let it cure for a month before finally installing. In less than 20 minutes they were toast, Nothing but ceramic coated for now on.....

yeah header paint is not at all good to the temp the header gets... I have seen it stand up to stock manifolds for a few drives but it allways burns off

No, it doesn't hold up too well. But the thing I've found that helps is to temper the metal by placing it in something hot enough to get it to operating temperature, like an oven. Then paint. Then back in to bake it.

I wounder if the wife would shoot me if I did that in her new oven she just bought a few months ago ROFL I tell her you told me to (just kidding) Im going to try bbq grill black paint its high temp

I guess I'm the only one who had luck with it.

I did my 88 manifolds and they lasted perfectly and looked the exact same a year later as they did the day they got painted. I had them on the truck when i first built it, break in driviing everything. Worked great.

Now as for headers the black worked good for me but only after all the factory paint is gone. DO NOT paint over the factory paint, if they are rusty sand them or blast them first and wipe them with grease and wax remover to make sure they are clean.

I painted dad's brand new headers with silver, it came off the first fire due to the factory paint being under the header paint. When I've painted old rusty headers or ones all the paint was gone, as long as it was in time and not running lean it worked perfect, if it ran lean then they might blister off but mine held up great, except for the ones I painted over factory paint on.

My dad has had the headers on his '55 210 Delray painted for many years. He will sandblast the headers every few years and repaint them. For the little amount of time he drives the car, it holds up well.

Try the anti seize coating instead next time.

Back in the old days WHITE header/manifold paint was always the way to go. Back then it contained Titanium Dioxide too.

Thats what my dad has always used. No wonder they have stayed so good looking.

That's up to you and your wife Preparation is the key tho (clean metal, no rust,oils, etc) Be sure to get the headers coated inside as well as the outside. The exhaust gases and heat are actually more corrosive than rust on the outside.
