Tearing apart my column

Well last night I was having problems with my turn signal lever wanting to go into the 'right' position. It was fine putting it in the 'left' position. I was almost home, needed to make a right turn and snapped something inside the column. Now it wont stay in either the 'right' or 'left' position and it is a little tricky to get my blinker to come on. I have to do it just right and hold it there til I make the turn. Anybody know what I broke that would be causing this? I have never torn my column apart, but I thought I remember someone saying there are some special tools needed. Anybody know what tools I will be needing? I searched and couldnt find any how to's, anybody know where I would be able to find one? thanks
