Saw this Jewel today

I work at the landfill and saw this mostly original 68 Short stepper come in today.....
The old gentleman that owns it is the 2nd owner...said he bought it in 72 from the 1st owner....
All he's done to it over the years is replace the 6 banger (said he ran it hot a couple days straight and lost the engine)...
it's a 250 3 speed manual, added the camper shell because he uses it as his DD and work truck and the wood floor look pretty good ....
I looked at the SPID....only showed a Green Vinyl Seat..
Said he parks it outside everyday since he's had it (thus the cool patina)..Asked him if he would ever sell it....
he said he has willed it to his son but in his will said that his son has to keep it all original
(he told me his son has already said he was going to lower it so that's why he recently changed his will)!!!

Re: Saw this Jewel today

That`s really cool.I love how there`s so many long time owners so attached with these things.i always said,"Sure, there`s plenty who like their Fords.but,People LOVE their Chevys".When guys say there`s more ford Trucks running their area I say,"Yeah, alot of guys love those Fords...when they`re new.but, how many hang on to them like these old Chevys?"i know a loing time cast-in-stone Ford man that can`t go without making a comment of how Ford always built better trucks. This guy has been selling Ford truck parts for decades. He brings all brand western parts back and sells them, still.Well,we`ve all heard the "On a quite night you can hear a Chevy rusting" saying.i alwyas said,"That`s just the 73-77s.There`s more 67-72 GMs holding up than Fords."Well,I was talking to this guy about the trucks through the years and I made mention of the Ford trucks in "this" era about one thing or the other (not about rust). Now,this was a friendly conversation, mind you.I could feel the pain when Dale volunteered,"Trucks in those years were bad for rust".That was offered not forced.I could tell he was still mad at Ford about that.GM got it right with these trucks!

Geoff... what's the deal with NC lately, they seem to have all the cool trucks down there.

That is a clean stepper with a great history. He wasn't looking to adopt another son was he?

Re: Saw this Jewel today

If you own a home, it's free to use the dump in SC (part of your taxes), so rather than pay to have it hauled away for me, I make the 10 mile trip every couple of weeks, sometimes in the 67. Other than car shows, this seems to be where I see the most 67-72 chevy trucks. The last time I went there was 2 there plus mine. Both were ragged but still cool

Re: Saw this Jewel today

So I spoke to the old guy a couple weeks ago and told him I'd check with a few (thousand) friends to see if I could find him a hub cap....so I posted a WTB ad here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=367376
And of course I had several guys step up and offer.....Special-K (tim) sent the one he had and now I have to see the old guy again....I think he'll be pretty happy.....so here's a pic of the one on his truck, and here's the one that Tim sent me....I think it'll fit perfect on there.....Thanks Tim....

I'll post up a few pics once I see him and we install it!!!

Re: Saw this Jewel today

Welp,

Mr. John stopped by today to pick up and install his long lost hub cap. It was funny...He asked what he owed me and I said that Tim sent it to him and wanted him to have it.....he asked if I stole it....good thing I had the USPS box it was sent in w/ Tim's info on it...I think he finally believed me

He was really nice and thankful, and I think very humbled by this act Tim.....not sure if he'll send ya a note, but he said thanks like 4 times....
I told him I'd install it for him, but he was eager to install it himself....thus the pic....then I asked him to pose with his new hubcap....and he gave a thumbs up and a big thanks!!! (I love that he put the USPS box beside it!!!)
