Da Big Kahuna's '71 C/10
I decided to start a build thread on my '71 Short Fleet C/10. I've had it almost a year now.
My idea here is to keep track of what mods I've done and when. I also want to keep track of some thread from other members that have ideas that I'd like to incorporate into my truck. Kind of an online notebook. Of course I'm always open to feedback and ideas from you guys. I am pretty knowledgeable about cars but this is my first truck and my first Chevy so I have a lot to learn. |

Re: Da Big Kahuna's '71 C/10
In the year I've had it, I've tackled a few things;
Sorted out some issues with the lighting. I've added some H4 headlights with a relay harness. Clear front turn signal lenses with amber bulbs. LED tail and reverse lights. Painted the grill satin black. Tried fixing the carb on it and finally gave up and replaced it. Just last month V-Dog and JohnOro helped me R&R the water pump. |

Re: Da Big Kahuna's '71 C/10
Next on the list;
1. Gast Tank leak. The tank is actually in the bed. It looks like a tool box. Recently it's started leaking when full. I think it's the breather but I'm not sure. I gotta look at it a little closer. 2. Bed Cover. I live in an area that has a ton of eucalyptus trees and they drop a ton of leaves. I'm getting pretty tired of leaves in the bed so I've ordered a Extang BlackMax cover. 3. Suspension. I haven't looked too closely at it yet but I'm guess the PO must have cut or torched the springs on it. It rides like crap and bottoms out easily. I'm going to take advantage of the CPP Open House and just buy a full 4.5/6 static drop setup so I know it's setup right and everything is designed to work together. |

Your truck looks great! Probably one of the cleanest ive seen in a while. Where did you find it? Ive got a bed cover just like the one you installed. Kind of a pain trying to get it all buttoned up especially when its cold out but it serves its purpose. What are your plans for it?

I found it in Phoenix just over a year ago. She photographs nice but she's just a driver. I have to get the front suspension sorted out next. I'm just gonna throw some springs and spindles on it. I have a complete front end from Scott's Hot Rods which I won at the CPP show a couple of weeks ago. I'd like to put that on it with a Porterbuilt rear bag set up but that it's gonna be a much bigger project than I can take on right now. I'm hoping to finish my '67 VW project by the end of the year and then I can take the truck apart and do it right. And YA that cover can be a pain in the butt when it's cold! I gotta have it to keep all the eucalyptus leaves out of the bed. They make quite a mess!

Re: Da Big Kahuna's '71 C/10
I had an alternator bearing go bad on the way back from the CPP show. I picked up a Powermaster 100 amp alternator from Summit earlier this week. I was trying to get it ready for the Del Mar show this weekend but Wednesday night was the only time I had to work on it.
After getting into it, I found out that the plug on the alternator was different than the one on my harness. I ordered the proper plug but that killed my momentum for the weekend. As I was laying in bed on Thursday night, it occurred to me that I could hook it up as a one wire temporarily. I wanted to scoot out of work early on Friday but there was just no way to get out. Today I finished up the alternator install with a new belt and hooked it up as a one wire so I was able to drive the truck for the first time in 2 weeks. Some time next week, I'll have the harness to hook it up right. ;-) I didn't think of taking any pictures but I'll try to snap some tomorrow.

Re: Da Big Kahuna's '71 C/10
I haven't found anything close that's available in CA.
What's the story on the Monte? I've always loved those early ones
