Modern camper on classic 1 ton chassis ?
Have a '70 c30 w.Franklin motorhome about 9 years ago. been looking at more modern motorhomes as I near reirement. Like the classics, have a '71 c10, but would like the more amenities of a more modern camper. Toying w/the thought of removing the Franklin and having a newer camper/cab over installed. Have not been able to find any pics. Would be nice to have the, on the road capability to fix most anything that could happen w/ the classic engine/truck design but have the modern amenities that a newer camper could afford.
Doesn't seem like it would be that hard, even if I couldn't use the pass thru and had to go w/a box design, I think it would be cool. Thoughts. |

Thanks yuccales, that's a possibility, still looking at options. She has a fair amount of dry rot and water damage though, but possibly fixable if I chose to go that route but a mix of the old and new would be cool.

There are a lot of people who build custom trailers. I would ask one of them if they can build you a camper to set onto your frame. Ice house builders, cargo trailer builders, restaurant trailer builders; they should all be able to help.

Will do but I have to think that maybe I could buy a used camper , remove the axles, modify it a bit and put it on the frame, I may be all wet but we will see.

I like your ideas... old iron with some modern conveniences.. would take some planning to make it look right...

Been following the same thoughts also. How about removing the franklin , build a flat bed with outside doors like a service box , put a modern 10-12ft slide in (with a tip out maybe?)in it. If done nicely , you could make it all look like one unit. I've only seen one done like this , looked real good , guy used it to haul an of road race truck. You could still leave the camper removable so the truck could go inside a normal height garage for service.
