T350 Floor Shifter for a 65' C10?

The guy that ripped my truck off tore up the steering column and it’s going to be too much of a hassle trying to get the original linkage working. I was wondering if anyone’s got any experience in installing a floor shifter for a three-speed-automatic?

This is the one I’m considering:

Part Number: HUU-3838520 / Hurst V-Matic 2 Shifter

Hurst 3838520: $215.95

Any knowledge will be greatly appreciated.

This one is built for trucks and should be a little higher profile.

My understanding is that you trim the bottom to fit the contour of your floor board.

I may have to go this route soon.

Re: T350 Floor Shifter for a 65' C10?

The kid that had my last truck b4 me cut a hole and put in a make shift set up. I had to place a patch in the floor and recut for a Genie floor shift kit featuring Swan shifter & REAL 8 Ball handle.. Worked out just fine. Here are a couple of pics.

Good Luck!

I'll be darned - had nearly the identicle set-up in my 66' GMC pick-up! It was already in the truck when I got her and never had a lick of trouble for three years. Do they still sell that assembly?

Yup they sure do. Genie's been around much longer than Lokar. Real Hot Rod stuff.

Item: 23" Gennie Ultra Swan TH-350 (1002G2)
Price: $249.95 / Part #: S1002G2

Got to admit - that’s a nice looking shifter. The shorter one’s okay too - but I’m concerned about clearing the bench seat. The price isn’t too bad either.

Good catch, 64c20crewcab!

That was the only draw back. However if ya know somebody in metal fab business. you can use the Genie mount and form a shifter to clear.

I had a slight issue with the bench seat. I had planned to have my seat redone with a notch cut out of the center front of the seat pad just so i'd have the proper clearance. Hoverver you can als use the 28" Genie lever too.

Yeah - I think I'll go for the long one - just cause it looks trick, then I won't have to worry about clearance. The one in the Jimmy came right back against the seat when in 'low', but never created a problem.

Sorry I don't. but the kit includes the handle of your choice with standard knob, mount bracket that attaches to 4 spots (i think?) on the tranny - using existing threaded locations, the shift arm and linkage rod(s). Note that this is all from memory so I may not be exact. I installed it on my last truck on Superbowl Sunday in 2000. One thing I do recall for sure is that the install is very easy & not complicated at all. I tried hunting down the company site but could not find it. I had the link to that site on my last computer but that machine got stolen. I'd did see that Lokar now makes a swan style shifter that is 32" long - now that will look SLICK!

Good Luck!

Re: T350 Floor Shifter for a 65' C10?

Okay Guys, I told you the truck I’m working on got stolen back in February, right? Well, the transmission that came with the V-8 (283) that I’m shipping off for rebuild Saturday, is one of those nasty old Saginaw clunkers. I finally got if off the engine last night - with the bell housing, and the starter was attached to the latter.

Question: Should that same starter somehow bolt up to the 283 without a big science project to make it happen?

(BTW: Which one of you is coming to my house this weekend to pick up this 3-speed?)

Were you refering to stock or the Genie shift linkage? It's one rod connected to shift arm on tranny. really simple.

I can get & post pic of my stock th350 setup if needed.

At this point any picture would help. I haven't picked a shifter yet, but $ is going to be the determining factor. I was thinking of using a cheepy Mr. Gasket one.

That M/T starter won't work with your T350 unless you change the nose cone. I would suggest just picking up a new or rebuilt starter for a later model truck....say '73 -'87. There are basically two different starter configurations in that era...one for a 153 tooth flexplate and one for a 168 tooth flexplate. You just need to get the correct one for the flexplate you're going to use (or already have) If your 283 block has 3 holes in the block above where the original starter was you can use either starter/flexplate setup. If it only has two (side by side) you'll have to use the 153 tooth flexplate and matching starter. Hope that makes sense....

Re: T350 Floor Shifter for a 65' C10?

OUTSTANDING!

That’s exactly what I needed to know - and is a zero problem issue, as I have to buy a new flexplate anyway. This gives me something to work with - as I have no experience (obviously) in this kind of conversion.

Thanks.
