Mallory Unilite

Is anyone else on here running a Unilite with an MSD 6AL box? I'm going to be and the wiring is really simple. Just wondered if anyone else is and if they are running the ballast resistor like Mallory recommends. MSD's destructions don't say anything about it. I bought the dizzy used so, I had to print the directions. I did buy a ballast resistor and new harness for it. Thanks guys.

Re: Mallory Unilite

The standard Unilite module is a VERy picky piece, and VERY prone to failure from high amp alternators, cheep battery chargers and any other source of voltage spike. Run the ballast resistor on the (red) 12v feed to the unilite module. The MSD won't be happy with the resistor so it needs to go only on the 12v feed to the distributor. As i remember its the green wire is the trigger that connects to the MSD box and is wired the same as for a points distributor (it's not a mag pickup). Brown is ground ands make SURE there is a good ground path (battery to engine block or intake,, Unility to same) but u downloaded the instructions so you probably know that. For anything you need Mallory,, get in touch with Sam Solace at CenturyPerformance.com He is in Carson City and used to be in Mallorys right hand (when they were there in Carson City) No one (even the ricer newbe MrGasket Mallory techs in Ohio that you get these days on the phone) knows Mallory better than Sam. AND REALLY GOOD PEOPLE!!!

Re: Mallory Unilite

Thanks for the advice Marv. You are correct that the Unilite is wired to the MSD like a points unit and not a mag p/u.
