95 Vortec heads / 7004R

Are 1995 steel Vortecs any good? I can get a set rebuilt for $ 500 Canadian. Are there any good casting numbers that I should look for?

What are the valve sizes?

What is the Max Lift for the stock springs?

What year and model of 700R4 should I be looking for?

Max lift is a debated issue....some sources say .450", others say .470"-480". Myself, i have no clue what the max lift is, but i would proably stay it safe and run about .450" or less.

For your 700R4, i would look for a '87 or newer model. In '87 they made alot of changes to the tranny, and beefed it up quite a bit. The older modles are supposed to be weaker and more finicky. They used the 700R4 up to '93 i think, and some models were called the 4L60. After '93, the tranny was converted to computer operation and became the 4L60E.

Good luck!
