Can I ask your opinions?

I have a 69 GMC 1500 and it has a 350 in it with a small blower. It still has stock manifolds and what looks to be a smaller holley. I really want to get moving on it and just get it going properly. I am in Austin, TX and have a couple options for shops but I am getting conflicting advice. I would really like to find someone that knows what would be best and willing to chat about it. I want to do and put a plan together to do things in the right order. I am still hunting for a money tree but until then I have to do things in stages.

* I have been told work on the cooling first.
* I have also been told get headers and let it breathe.

I am on a scale of 1-10 I am a weak 6 or maybe a 5 when it comes to anything motor related.

What I would like is some advice or if you know someone here in austin, dripping springs, or surrounding areas let me know your thoughts

I think headers are a good idea for your set up. With respect to the cooling system, it looks like you are missing the fan shroud. That might help it run cooler.

What problems are you having with it?

I just got my truck back and it really seems they don't want to work on it. I have a bunch of small projects that will lead to a larger one. When I hit the gas it sounds like a low whoopie cushion and it feels as though it sluggish. The big issue is I have no idea how the motor is built so I need to figure this out.
My plan was to start fresh with a new carb then msd kit. It has manifolds not headers so that may be another symptom. I would really like to find someone local but have yet to find someone.

Do you plan on keeping the blower?

You might be better with a stock intake for your holley carb.

I really like the look and sound of my blower. I can read, watch and learn pretty well. I am brand new to sbc motors. I have been looking at just getting a new carb no idea what model or what they have done to it. It has a red cam in it.

If the blower stops me from getting to my goal that would be the only way I would want that to go away.

Cam?
Compression?
Heads?
Block casting numbers?

A double pumper of some size to be determined.
THere's a list number on the front drivers side of the air horn that'll tell us what it is.

You could keep the blower but if this is your first rodeo with a sbc then you might be in for a lot of heartache and head scratching.

But you gotta learn sometime!

Do you have a timing light and a vacuum gauge?
Are you gonna learn how to do it or find someone to do it for you.

It's a small blower might as why learn. I do not have a timing light or vacuum gauge yet. I have been buying tools as needed. I also have had work done but I want to learn.

Why rebuild it? What makes you think it's a problem?

Tune up!
Timing check and set.
New plugs!

I see you have an hei. Does it have the correct dedicated 12 v wiring to it?
Do you know how to tell if it does or doesn't?

I am just going by what I have been told by a local mechanic. According to my receipts it has a new float, power valve, fuel filter and oil change

Well like I said before!!
Check your wiring to the hei, get a timing light and check your timing, get a vacuum gauge and check your vacuum.
And go from there.

You should also check the hei vacume advance. They need to be recurved or locked out for a blower.

Using the Holley with a blower such as this, requires the carb to be boost referenced.

The power valve will never open the way it is, there is always a strong vacuum as it is and does not allow the power valve to open.

The vacuum source needs to come from below the blower, running a vacuum line from there and altering the carb to accept this new vacuum source will allow the power valve to open under acceleration.

Without the power valve opening, there is a very lean condition while accelerating.

DO NOT run the eng with the nut on the air cleaner stud (without the air cleaner) plug the power valves and jet up?

Thanks I took the air cleaner off only to take a picture that was requested. I put the nut and washer on so I would not lose them again. They just replace power valve at the shop. This carb needs a little attention based on some other members opinions.
