1972 C10 I知 looking at

Went and looked at a 72 c10 today and I had some questions on it. Has the original motor and transmission in it which is a 350/350 combo. Factory power steering and brakes, factory leaf rear suspension, and a special production on the spid. I believe it was YG8, please correct me if I知 wrong, but I thought I took a picture and I can稚 find it. It mentioned a plaid something somewhere but either way, was it a highlander with that code? The seat had been recovered at some point in time, same pattern but just solid colors. It痴 currently not running but will spin over, cab supports are very rusty, inner and outter rocker panels are real rusty, and I can put my fist through the passenger cab corner and see through the driver side rocker. Floor has some rust by the supports near the rockers and the bed floor is shot. Here are some pictures, does it being a yg8/ Highlander make it worth anymore than a normal 72 c10 custom deluxe? And what would it be worth? Thanks for the help

Re: 1972 C10 I知 looking at

If you saw YG8, yes it is a Highlander and it is a Special Promo Pkg C truck (top promo pkg). YG8 would be on the Special Promo Pkg RPO line and the word "plaid" appeared in the RPO line for the seat trim as follows:
604=gray plaid, 611=blue plaid, 613=avocado plaid, 618=orange plaid
Anything with a plaid seat is considered a Highlander - and all the Special Promo trucks (A,B,C=YG6,7,8) included the Highlander plaid seat cover.

Re: 1972 C10 I知 looking at

I know I had tried to take a picture but it must have messed up and delayed it because I have a blurry shot of it. I know definitely it said special promo on it and I though yg8 which is why it rang a bell when I did a search for it. Just need to figure out if it’s worth really anything more than a standard 72 custom deluxe without the special package or not. Very rough pickup but can be bought for 1500

Biggest issue I’m running into right now is the title. Apparently the owner is in prison since January and it’s his girlfriend selling it for him. But everything is still ongoing with that so it could get involved in the middle of that

Since you池e in Kansas, you could just do the antique transfer of ownership maybe...it痴 a state DOT bill of sale form, and you would have to have a VIN inspection done...

That may work. I know they usually do a title search here when you do a vin inspection and if it shows up within the last 5 years I think of being registered you have to track them down to get a reprint of the title or get it from them

I wonder if the HE knows his girlfriend is selling it for him...
If you happen to remember if it had A/C, that would have made it a YG8 (Promo Pkg C).

It does not have ac. I’m usually better at taking pictures of that stuff but I didn’t this time. But he knows, she had been talking with him about it while I was there

Ha, just checkin! Ok, well, not a YG8 then. If it had tilt, it'd be a 7, if no tilt, then a 6.

Jocko is right on with the info he has given you. Go to Post # 38 for more in depth on the Highlander Packages. If it had a YG8 package the nice DG$ exterior mirrors are included in that package and the truck isn't showing any now.

Re: 1972 C10 I知 looking at

Yes did have a tilt in it. My plan would be to get it running/driving And flip it since I’m trying to get a house built and it’s a good way to pickup a little extra money for that. But no matter what the pickups options are, they all rust the same which drops the value on them. Decent amount of rust on it especially for someone who knows nothing on body work lol

So what's going to happen when this guy gets out of prison and says hey that's my truck?I would at least get a hold of this guy in prison. They may have the ability for him to sign over the title legally.

Re: 1972 C10 I知 looking at

Title is signed by him and ready to go, just a matter of if the state will have any issue with them selling anything or not that’s in his name. Real question is, aside from title stuff, is it being a Highlander make worth more or is it one of those rare but not necessarily a more desirable rare than any other plain old 72?

It looks like Janesville built truck. The deluxe is centered.

Highlanders have been getting popular the last few years. When they were new so many buyers hated the plaids and recovered the seats with all kinds of different colored and styled materials. Are they worth more, I guess to someone that wants one. I bought my Highlander because it was a clean well taken care of truck. The green plaid seat in my truck was in excellent shape and when I talked to the original owners son he told me his Dad hated the plaid seat so bought a seat cover 2 days after buying the truck and it was on there when he sold the truck in 2011. As with any truck the clean unmolested ones usually bring the best money. Is a Highlander more desirable , who knows but it seems these days a clean unmolested Highlander with the YG8 package and all the package goodies still on the truck usually bring real good money. Pictured are the seat I my truck when I bought it and I changed it up to buckets and console. I sold the plaid bench ofr pretty good money, north of 500.00 and had multiple people wanting it.

Re: 1972 C10 I知 looking at

Thank you for the info, nice looking pickup as well. This one is surprisingly all there, as far as the original drive train, ps, pb, and the tilt she’s just rusty. I’ve had several people talk about how easy repair can be on rockers and cab corners but haven’t wanted to try because I’ll mess something up haha and no matter what we all do we look for the best deal on them. I just don’t want to give more than needed just because it’s a Highlander and it doesn’t really add much value. End of the day it’s another 72 c10 with rust lol I can buy it for 1300 with an extra bed so may just have to pull the trigger on it
